At the push of a button you can create a new category inside your specified sections, named “Month Year” e.g. March 2010 or whatever you like. A great time saver if you have a blog or news style website with lots of sections that all have categories based on the month for example.
If you have an article based site with alot of sections and categories, it can take a long time to make new categories inside each section manually, instead use "Auto Cats". It can also be used to quickly create new sections, and you have full control over the name format of the categories, (default is Month-Year, but you can customise this)
Install, then select your "article" categories e.g. "Blog, News", click save, the "Blog" & "News" sections will be added to the "Active List".
Click "Make Categories" and categories are instantly created for those sections in your desired format i.e. March 2010.

you have no idea how much time I have saved by your category utility. I wanted to create taxonomy of some 200 sections and categories similar to a very popular website and had already given up after 15-20. then though there might be an joomla extension available that will save me. And here you were. so thought to spare some 5 mins to write a review for this.
The extension is ideal for those who want to create or copy a taxonomy quick and fast.

Works great, could use some improvements. Would be nice if the user could create it's own formats (year month instead of month year) and create multiple categories per section.

Thanks for the review, I have added the following features in the next version:
Choice of name formats:
Year-Month
Month-Year
Year
or Custom
- By choosing Custom, you can use your own string for the names of the categories, e.g. 'Jays Categories'
Also, I have added the feature to select existing Sections and add them to the "Active" list of sections, instead of having to manually add them.
