- Upload the zip-archive with Joomla's Component Installer.
- Create a new menu in the backend and link it to the component, or use one of the component's options to automate menu item creation in Main Menu or Top Menu.
- Choose the preferred map viewer (java or flash).
- Adjust the width, height and other display options.
The component works fine with JoomFish.
You have the option of using built-in functions for character conversion but you can choose mbstring if you have problems.
There are also other options which allow you to change the look-and-feel.
2010-02-22 - Solved some bugs; updated the flash component, links target is now "_self".
2010-02-18 - added an option in the backend to hide/show the number of articles/sections on the map (due to popular request).Several other minor improvements.
2009-04-12 - updated to version 2.2.5 - corrected the uninstaller in order to work with Joomla 1.5.10.
2009-01-15 - version 2.2.1 adds an option in the backend to show/hide certain menus on the sitemap.
2008-11-18 - updated to version 2.1.9
Changes :
- The site name now appears in the flash viewer as a tag
- Minor code chabges
- Development site migrated
2008-11-12 - updated to version 2.1.8
Changes :
- Five new color schemes
- Added the option of two different edge styles (bezier and linear) for rendering the map branches
- Added HOME and ROOT icons in sitemap (display mode based on menus)
This was so easy to load and implement, I thought I had done it wrong...except it works. The video tutorial is excellent, watch it first and then go.
VERY easy to use.
Thanks for this great extension

Very good idea - thank you for this great component !
I would just suggest some further improvements:
(1) in the parameters it would be useful to select whether the mindmap is fully expanded or contracted when opened
(2) it would be great if it would be possible to select if unpublished/expired articles should appear or not (right now they seem to appear)
(3) to click on a link of the mindmap opens a new browser window, it might be useful to open the article in the same window not to confuse the user.
Great work and I hope you guys are still working on this extension, I guess there may be more useful applications for it ! Thank you !

That's somehing new... I've never seen so cool-looking sitemap! You open the sitemap, see humorous circles and rectangles with names of the site's components and enjoy it! And yeah, the navigation of the sitemap is like some geographical maps which is fun in the best meaning of this word.
BUT! Others look simple and boooring but have less glitches. I don't like FreeMind's "[numbers]" after names of the site's components. If somebody will see "Forum [0]" he won't look through that forum. If there weren't these "[numbers]" I would like FreeMind much more.
My mark is "A" - "Excellent!" but in my mind it is "B with plus".

I have been reviewing extensions for showing the site map on our site. I came across Joom!FreeMind and the rest is history.
I tested version 2.1.5 and liked it. Since then I have been corresponding with Cosmin Damian (the developer) about my observations. Cosmin was kind enough of to take my input and diligently worked on improving the component every time. Now we are in version 2.1.8.
Thanks Cosmin for your relentless support in improving this component.
