RokTabs Popular Module

What is RokTabs?

RokTabs is a tabbed content module, standalone and sporting its own themes (light and dark). Content is transitions, either by fade or scroll, and is powered by mootools.

The module has the ability to be fully automated, switching based on time or manually by user interaction. RokTabs also has support for the plugin allowing to load modules inside it, as well as supporting K2.

Features

* Tabbed Content: Display multiple content items in a tabbed enclosure.
* Module Position Support: You can insert module positions inside the tabs.
* Inbuilt Styling: Both light and dark styling for standalone support
* Configurability: Highly configurable from options dealing with transition, to content type and layout.

The only thing that makes this module Good, and not Excellent is the issue that you have to hit the little Compatibility View button on your IE 8 browser. Now, it may not be entirely fair to blame this on RokTabs as IE is obviously to blame as well, since it worked in older browsers. But the reason I am still kinda holding it against RokTabs is that perhaps they could have found a fix for it. BUT, PLEASE, this is a very small drag-point, and I would rather select "almost Excellent" instead of "Good", but there is no option for that. Still one of my favourite modules!

Undoubtedly the best free tab module there is. (I downloaded and tried a bunch!)

HOWEVER....

I have the brilliant Afterburner Template which these guys kindly provide free and I downloaded this module too and this seems to be a bit of a problem... Call me fussy, but I just don't like the dots on the tabs messing up my text. If they could simply get rid of these I would have given this 100%

They have a "solved" thread for this issue:

http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=264&t=77451&rb_v=viewtopic

Which doesn't provide much help with Afterburner - which doesn't have a "template.css" file that I have been able to find as an amateur.

It also doesn't work 100% with Google Chrome (seems fine IE & FF). But this is a problem with Chrome rather than their end as far as I can tell...

The biggest problem is that there doesn't seem to be anyway of getting support without paying to join their forums. Which I am too tight to do.
Very easy to install, and get running. Set it up on a test page and works great. Even checked to make sure it validated in xhtml and it did which is great as it keeps my website compliant.

Only suggestion would be to add the ability to specifically choose what is in each tab. Meaning instead of having to choose the article section and category... I would like to specifically choose an article/module for each tab directly to have more control of the order of the tabs. Hopefully i'm not over looking something lol.

However like i said i still think its an amazing product and works great out the box :)

I easily did what I wanted with it.
One feature request is to make an option to run plugins inside.

This would be a great Tab solution, but I wanted to use this with their very own Afterburner template, and it simply doesn't work. Requests for help on this issue in the RokTabs forum has gone completely unacknowledged since an initial request for more information. If it works for you, great. But if it won't work with one of *their* templates... not good.
Owner's reply

Afterburner disables Mootools by default in its settings (Admin > Extensions > Template Manager > rt_afterburner_j15 > Enable Mootools : Yes).

And RokTabs requires mootools in order to work so just set this option to yes and it will work :)

Seriously, all joking aside, RokTabs is a great way to implement tabs in your site. Only complaint is I don't know why they made it a module instead of a plugin. It seems that it is mostly used inside of content. So why not make it a plugin or component instead a module. But, you can still call the module in the content and it works well.

Great job!

I have tried many components like this before without any luck at all. THIS ONE IS TOPS. It took all of about five minutes and it was up and running. The best thing I like that it's 100 % xhml and css valid. Oh, AND IT WORKS AWESOME. Thank you very much.. check it out if you like www.askmediy.com
