SevenUp IE6 Warning Plugin

Any web designer worth their salt would agree that IE6 leaves lots to be desired. It's over 8 years old, it's not supported by Microsoft anymore, and it's just about time we encourage (cajole?) everyone to move on and upgrade.

There has been a movement in the past 6 months to notify web visitors that they're using an out-of-date browser. Soon YouTube and FaceBook will officially pull their support. And now you can add this feature easily to your own Joomla site.

Just install this plugin, enable it, and boom you have an IE6 warning.

It's based entirely on the SevenUp code by Howard Jonathan. His project is on Google Code http://code.google.com/p/sevenup/

I hate hearing about my clients' sites being slagged because they look like ick in an outdated, standards-flouting, embarrassment for commercial software like IE6. Let's be done with it!

I fixed the problem by editing the file:
/plugins/sevenup/js/sevenup_black.0.3.min.js (if you using black lightbox style plugin in settings)

on line 2 add "left:0;" to the styles.

I edited the file and it worked pretty well.
Thank you for the tip RiaanZA!

It seems a lot of people are having issues with it not displaying properly in IE 6. The problem I had was that it wasn't centered.

I fixed the problem by editing the file:
/plugins/sevenup/js/sevenup_black.0.3.min.js (if you using black lightbox style plugin in settings)

on line 2 add "left:0;" to the styles.

Hopefully this will fix other peoples problems too.

Other than that, this is an awesome plugin and looks good too.

As with the previous comment I seem to be having the issue that it doesn't display in IE6 but does when "display in all browsers" is checked.

I guess it's ironic that when I pull the site up in IE6, it doesn't display the warning. But if I enable the debug mode, it will show up in Firefox, etc.. Isn't the point of it to show up if they have IE6? Nice looking popup, if it would only work =(

Using Version 0.1.1

Thanks to Chris, It is a very good plugin, but needs some modification.

- images are not stored locally
- texts are written in a .js file so it cannot be translated to non-English UTF8 languages as it has no .ini language file.
- Divs and CSS's are written in a .js file and not in a .php or a .css file.

Waiting Patience-less-ly for the new version.

This simple plugin configures in seconds, and works great. The pop-up message is a simple box that can be customized to match the colour scheme of your website. Plus, you can set the parameters so that once IE6 visitors have seen the upgrade message, they can choose not to see it again. This makes it so the upgrade message doesn't appear on each page as IE6 ueser navigate through the site.

Thanks for sharing your work.

Good plugin, works good en css is ok for every browser.

To person below me: You are able to activate 'show on every browser' (for testing purpose). You are also able to change the whole pop-up by changing particular files in the plugin map.

So for me, it works great. No bugs, easy configuration!

Easily implemented and works fine.

However, it would be nice if we could get it to display to all IE users and display firefox as the main browser to switch to (right now it's set to IE8)

Needs a bit more work to polish up, but for a .1 version this is very nice. The things not working for me (not critical) are the "Enable Closing" being set to "no", still allows it to be closed.

Regardless, I will be installing once I'm sure it isn't going to explode on me. ;)
