I've used this on two different sites without an issue unlike many of their other extensions. It has a lot of features that work including auto slide, how it slides, tabs up, down, left, right, etc. I haven't come across a better solution as of yet so this is the best tab solution imo. My only gripe is the styling is almost always very bland, if you use a suffix, it looks worse. They should allow the styling of it to easily change.

I currently use RocketTheme templates and thought that the RokTabs extension would be a great tabbed showcase for some articles. Installation was easy - but that is when the problems started.

I settled on the CUSTOM theme (which by the way blends in perfectly with the template style). But here is the rub - how many articles do you have that are of the EXACT same length ?

Answer - ZERO. Thats right, the extension makes the tabbed display as big as the biggest article, leaving lots of white space for all your shorter articles. Now who is going to find this acceptable ? Certainly not anyone who believes in having a great looking site.

For the guys at Rockettheme - all that hard work and you messed it up by leaving out one single feature ?! Go figure!

I had to hunt high and low before I found a single and solitary mention in the RocketTheme forum site that the module height is not determined dynanically - but is fixed. Strange that no-one else even mentions it.

So here it is - THIS EXTENTION HAS A FIXED HEIGHT ! Your articles will look yuck with lots of white space.

Fix this and you have a great module. Until then...........

I want to be able to say better about RokTabs as it promises a lot and almost delivers.

I have tried it twice now on different sites and run into the same problem both times that have caused me to abandon it. I also see many other users with the same problem also forced to abandon it's use.

Don't expect Roktabs to be useable in the non-commercial version except as a way to evaluate the commercial version.

The height of the tabs is not easily or obviously customizable and it appears that the support will not answer questions on this issue from non-registered (i.e. subscribed) users except to point to forum threads which can only be read by subscribed users.

I understand the need for us all to make a buck but this simply seems like a bad way to do so. Offering something but not actually delivering.

Unless you are prepared to use buy the commercial version don't waste your time here as many others seem to have done.

I would love to rate this with a higher rating but there just seems to be too many issues. I installed it and at first thought that it was functioning great - then I noticed that the height of the module is based on the content from all of the tabs - thus the module ended up having a height of over 1400px.

This is a good Tabs module to show articles. But there lack some important options, like: limit the content length; show or hide image; generate thumbnail for large image, etc.
Hope the author will improve this better. Thanks.

I love all the Rok Extensions... This one is by-far my favorite one. I just have an issue with having multiple themes on a site. I created a suggestion on how to fix it in the joomla forums:

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=472&t=501822

please visit it and tell me what you think...

Excellent free module that is very stylish. Found the category/section content system a bit restrictive though.

I had the same problems with the bullet point being added to the tab titles and I also use the afterburner template.
I managed to solve it by applying the css fix detailed here:

http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=264&t=77451&rb_v=viewtopic

to the css file
/modules/mod_roktabs/tmpl/light/roktabs.css

Substitute light for dark if you use the dark template for your tabs.

Lovely module, does just what I want easily. One thing though, the bullets on the non active tabs ruin it. If it wasnt for that I would give an excellent rating.

Maybe I am doing something wrong.....

The only thing that makes this module Good, and not Excellent is the issue that you have to hit the little Compatibility View button on your IE 8 browser. Now, it may not be entirely fair to blame this on RokTabs as IE is obviously to blame as well, since it worked in older browsers. But the reason I am still kinda holding it against RokTabs is that perhaps they could have found a fix for it. BUT, PLEASE, this is a very small drag-point, and I would rather select "almost Excellent" instead of "Good", but there is no option for that. Still one of my favourite modules!

Undoubtedly the best free tab module there is. (I downloaded and tried a bunch!)

HOWEVER....

I have the brilliant Afterburner Template which these guys kindly provide free and I downloaded this module too and this seems to be a bit of a problem... Call me fussy, but I just don't like the dots on the tabs messing up my text. If they could simply get rid of these I would have given this 100%

They have a "solved" thread for this issue:

http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=264&t=77451&rb_v=viewtopic

Which doesn't provide much help with Afterburner - which doesn't have a "template.css" file that I have been able to find as an amateur.

It also doesn't work 100% with Google Chrome (seems fine IE & FF). But this is a problem with Chrome rather than their end as far as I can tell...

The biggest problem is that there doesn't seem to be anyway of getting support without paying to join their forums. Which I am too tight to do.

Very easy to install, and get running. Set it up on a test page and works great. Even checked to make sure it validated in xhtml and it did which is great as it keeps my website compliant.

Only suggestion would be to add the ability to specifically choose what is in each tab. Meaning instead of having to choose the article section and category... I would like to specifically choose an article/module for each tab directly to have more control of the order of the tabs. Hopefully i'm not over looking something lol.

However like i said i still think its an amazing product and works great out the box :)

I easily did what I wanted with it.
One feature request is to make an option to run plugins inside.

This would be a great Tab solution, but I wanted to use this with their very own Afterburner template, and it simply doesn't work. Requests for help on this issue in the RokTabs forum has gone completely unacknowledged since an initial request for more information. If it works for you, great. But if it won't work with one of *their* templates... not good.
Owner's reply

Afterburner disables Mootools by default in its settings (Admin > Extensions > Template Manager > rt_afterburner_j15 > Enable Mootools : Yes).

And RokTabs requires mootools in order to work so just set this option to yes and it will work :)

Seriously, all joking aside, RokTabs is a great way to implement tabs in your site. Only complaint is I don't know why they made it a module instead of a plugin. It seems that it is mostly used inside of content. So why not make it a plugin or component instead a module. But, you can still call the module in the content and it works well.

Great job!

I have tried many components like this before without any luck at all. THIS ONE IS TOPS. It took all of about five minutes and it was up and running. The best thing I like that it's 100 % xhml and css valid. Oh, AND IT WORKS AWESOME. Thank you very much.. check it out if you like www.askmediy.com
