In the top of the description it's written - "Use any font on your Joomla! Site!"...
That is a BIG LIE... they have about 10 fonts there and there is a link that says "If you want to upload your fonts check documentation" -- HA HA which leads to the commercial version of the extension.
There is NO POINT to download the free version because you can NOT use it with the fonts you want.
Owner's reply

You're wrong. Of course you can use any font with the free version. If your desired font is not included in the plugin all you need to do is create a font file as described step by step in the instructions on our website: http://www.freakedout.de/jsifr3/jsifr3-create-custom-fonts.html
We can not include more fonts in the plugin package because they are very big and it would increase the file size to an unreasonable amount.
To be honest it's really unfair calling us cheaters and liars without even trying to get in touch with us as this misunderstanding could have been clarified within minutes. If you have any problems with our extensions please post in the forums or use the contact form to get in touch with us. Thank you.

This plugin actually does work, that is, if you can bite your tongue long enough to get through the arrogant support staff.

I would have gladly marked this plugin as Excellent but the developer (Pete) needs to learn how to communicate with people and get off his high horse. I realize his plugin is free, but we as the community do not depend on rude developers, they depend on us to try their plugins, write reviews, and promote their business. I would've paid $30 for this plugin just to avoid his attitude.
Owner's reply

Just to clarify: Your first approach to contact us ended with: "help or I'm forced to write a negative review.". I was so impressed how much you seem to appreciate that we take the time to develop software and offer it for free that my answer was: "That really encourages us to make more of it". However, at the same time I helped you to figure out why the plugin didn't work for you, which turned out to be caused by not reading a bold printed sentence in the instructions. If I made the impression of being arrogant or rude to you I'm very sorry to have hurt your feelings.

The description of this plugin doesn't say that if you want to use a specific font that isn't in the group of eight included, you have to have Flash Editor, and possibly a basic familiarity with html/css since some coding is required to embed the swf file once you make it. The instructions are well laid out and straightforward, though, so if you can make a swf file, being able to follow instructions would probably be as much skill as you would need with html/css. I'm new to Joomla and website development, so perhaps if I was more knowledgeable I would have understood this from the description. As it was, I just wanted to use Calibri font on my site -- a common font, but not a standard one so not on Joomla. It's not in the font group on this plugin either. If I had Flash Editor, it would have been very simple to add any font I wanted, and this plugin would have been a dream to use. But I don't, so this plug-in wasn't helpful for me. The Pro version may well have Calibri, but I'm only making one website and only want the one font so is not worth it for me.
Owner's reply

Hello ohsonew,

Actually you don't need the flash editor. Our instructions clearly state that you can use sifrgenerator.com which is extremely easy to use also for beginners. We simply can't include every single font that exists because the plugin would be several hundred megabytes big. In case you want to use a font that is not included we have detailed instructions on our website. If you then still need help feel invited to post in our forums and we'll explain things or point you in the right direction. Also I'd like to point out that there is no coding involved whatsoever except double clicking and using your keyboard.

It takes a lot for me to write a review, so believe me when I say that this extensions is amazing. Took seconds to install and once the plugin was enabled the affect was instantanious, all heading replaced by one of the built in fancy fonts. Following the detailed instructions, it took me 15 minutes to create and install my custom font. 10/10, can't praise you guys enough. When the site i'm working on goes live, I'll certainly purchase the PRO version, not because I need the functionality, but because you guys deserve the reward.
Thanks, Philip - webdesco

Simple to install, easy instructions and no fuss.

After messing with sIFR for hours (and giving up on it working the way I wanted) this little plugin is just amazing. In less than 5 minutes I had the font converted and installed on the site.

For my next project I will be getting jSIFR Pro, for the added flexibility.

This extension is great! I was quickly able to install, enable and customize the settings within minutes. Their website was detailed on how to make your own custom font. I, again, was able to do this within minutes of downloading the appropriate files. Only thing I did get confused was that I couldn't see any type in the white box when creating my custom font. However, I just made my type look like they had on the instruction page at their website, and all worked wonderfully! Thanks!

Thank to this plugin I can use old national font at my site and it looks very nice!
Upon my experience you have to check all site pages in all browsers to proof the proper look for all replaced styles. Once you faced some misalignments, first of all check component or module to find if it is properly coded.
Also, author's response is quick.
Good job, Pete!

Being new to all of this i was a little hesitant to pay for the pro version of this plug in, but it claimed to do everything i wanted so i gave it a shot.

To put it mildly i was wrapped with what it achieved and how much it brightened my site. Even more, i had a small issue i needed help with and the site admin had it fixed in minutes and then sent me an email recommending another plug in that may of been of help to me..the guy was sensational.
Absolutely Awesome!!!!!

It's pretty simple and easy to install.

Once question though, is it possible to override each title by CSS? I have different module title that needs to be in different colours. If so, how do I go about it?
Owner's reply

Thank you for your review.

It is not possible to set font-colors for sIFR by CSS.
If you need several font-colors you could use the JsIFR3 Pro version to set up to five different styles.

Thanks for the good plugin. What I like most is that you don't need to edit the templates for this plugin, as needed by the other free sIFR plugin and can figure out most things on the plugin config page. So it is easy to try different fonts, the shadow option etc.

I guess most users will be interested in making their own fonts usable with JsIFR3. An easy way would be www.sifrgenerator.com , but it can't produce flash files in the 432 format used by this plugin... Until there is an update for this plugin, you can do the following to update it yourself:

1. install this plugin

2. download the original sIFR for 436 format from http://dev.novemberborn.net/sifr3/nightlies/

3. overwrite the sifr.js file in /plugins/system/jsifr3 with the new version of the same file you find within sifr3-r436.zip

4. convert any true type font using www.sifrgenerator.com

5. upload the resulting sfx file to /plugins/system/jsifr3

6. go to JsIFR3 plugin administration page in joomla, select "custom" font and enter the name of the sfx-file without ".sfx"

7. activate the plugin and there you are.

Additional tipp:
You will probably want to remove some tags from the "css selector" entry on the plugin config page, so that not each and every heading will be flashed.
Owner's reply

The current version uses sIFR3 r436 which is sifrgenerator compatible :)

Very useful plugin. This has made the custom font integration very easy.

But I have a problem in integrating sifr in the top navigation of the sites.
Whenever I define the CSS selector in the sifr plugin, It shows the sifr text on the navigation menus but the cursor remains as 'text'. It does not change to 'pointer. Also when working in IE, siFr area of the link is not clickable.

I dont guess why these problems are occuring. After defining the right CSS selectors. for your information we are using a custom font.
Owner's reply

You have most likely used a wrong css-selector so that sIFR doesnt recognize the element as link. If your code looks like (ul class="menu")(li)(a href=...) then you should use ".menu li" as selector and not ".menu li a" as one might think.

This is a good sIFR plugin for J1.5. I originally used it on a site that I was building, but eventually had to replace it with Ninja Super sIFR because it allowed for more styles to be used.

The only problems I had with this plugin was that I needed to use multiple styles of the same font, and as near as I could tell there was no way to use more than one style at a time with this plugin. I actually ended up modifying it and changing the details in the XML file and installing this same plugin twice so I could use two styles on the same site.

The other problem was that on my content headings, it would crop the last 10-30 pixels of the text off, making it unreadable.

Other than that, I was able to get it to work very well. You can't beat the price :), and I'm thankful for developers like this who are making good quality stuff for others to use.

Bottom Line: A very strong component if you don't need a lot of flexibility.

Great plugin! With all those plugins and their different fonts it's nice to have a plugin that can unify everything.

However, if you have a lot of modules, plugins and templates, it's hard to locate the exact css class. I got this nice plugin for Firefox called "web developper" (http://chrispederick.com/work/web-developer/). After install, right-click on your page/web developper/css/view style info, and now you have all the classes your selection belongs to. Just write the class in the JsIFR3 plugin and you're set.

Would it be possible to have more than one style on a page? For example a font for the menu and a different font for a heading?
Owner's reply

We are working on a new version that will enable up to three different fonts/settings on the same page. Release date will be around end of january 2009.

Cool Plugin, it´s super easy to use.
Thanks a lot to the author!

The only Drawback is, that you can use just one flash font for all your css Styles.
