Joomla PNG-Lite icons are a direct swap for Joomla core png icons, the icons appear the same in every possible way including quality. These images were compressed based off the Template optimization guide(here: http://dailyfidelity.com/web-development/how-to-optimize-any-template-on-any-cms/) I wrote that can be applied to just about any template to make them significantly smaller. They also work with any front end template and will not compromise security in any way.
What does this modify?
The following directories are modified
joomlaroot/administrator/images/
joomlaroot/administrator/templates/system/images
joomlaroot/administrator/templates/khepri/
joomlaroot/administrator/templates/khepri/images/
joomlaroot/templates/system/images/
Data & Bandwith Savings
You save an substantial amount of bandwidth and speed, by using this direct file swap enhancement. From administrator/images/ you save a whopping 58.00 kb, from administrator/templates/ you save 43.25 kb. And last, but certainly not least, especially for those with high traffic sites 2.25 kb from templates/.
Reducing 2.25kb of data may not seem like, but to a user downloading it on 56k dial up it is a decent amount. And for broadband users it will shave off a fraction of the load time, it all ads up though. Also don’t forget template/system files are loaded EVERY TIME someone visits your site for the first time. Lets say you had a high traffic site maybe 100,000 visits a month, with the simple templates/system/images folder modification alone you could save 225.00 mb of traffic every month!
For the back end the savings are even better, you save 100kb of data from every new visit. Not only that your navigation between pages will be much quicker.
Installation
This is by far the easiest optimization enhancement for Joomla to install. Simply unpack the zip file and drop it in to your root Joomla directory via ftp, overwriting all of the images it asks you to replace.
You may need to clear your browser cache to notice any improvements. While the improvements may be small, they are improvements at the cost of about 2 minutes of your time. You need to use the default admin template to notice any differences in the back end.
Great for sites with monthly bandwidth limits and I noticed my back end load and respond a lot quicker!
You don't have anything to lose, except MB's on your loads!
