MD5 hash check is a basic Joomla Security tool for a little security checks over all your Joomla files and 3rd party extensions. This tool will let you scan through all your Joomla files and make sure that all the files are valid and same as extracted from the original zip file downloaded from Joomla.org (joomlacode.org) It will also tell you if any core Joomla files are missing.
I'll give this a "good" review, because it appears to do something, and it does it well. However, my problem may stem from unreasonable expectations. My site has been hacked. There are files on there somewhere which are causing it to display links to pharmacies, etc. This tool could not find the files that are causing the problem.
Had a problem on a production site and spent hours trying to figure out what had gone wrong after the site suddenly dissapeared and both front and back ends went blank! With this tool I was able to quickly compare all my files against the originals and see what was missing or had been changed. Great work guys! Keep it up! Thanks for bringing such a useful tool to the community!

My sites KEEP being hacked/attacked - using this script allows me to easily check what files have been affected - easy to us - does the job - no issues with this whatsoever :)

A month ago I was attacket by hackers. Once those guys began, they didn't stop doing it every day again and again. I had to stay at late nights to clean the code of one of my websites. Night by night. Together with the hosting company we did some improvements to protect the site, but it was too late for this - the code was like Swiss cheese - full of holes.
I wrote to the hosting company in wich servers the hackers were where based (I discovered so many things on their hidden places, you wouldn't beleive!!!) And guess what? - I never received even an appology from that company!
So, I had to start my website entirely from the beginning.
Now I use several ways to protect the code and MD5 Comparison Toolis one of them. It is easy to use and it gives you a priceless helping hand when you want to look a bit deeper.

For the first time in my life... i can say we updated joomla and it didn't break. Most of the times... it happens... because we have so many modified files and any update will break our site.
this tool at the first shot itself gave us a list of file which have been modified and we didn't overwrite those files.
