The Corehack system plugin modifies, yet seperately maintains, the module helper and component view, when enabled. In other words, it hacks the core files, but it stores the hacked files in seperate directories. So it doesn't overwrite the files - if you uninstall the plug in you aren't left with hacked files. Core function is not deleted AND is rehacked on every run so that when you upgrade your Joomla installation this plugin will continue to function.
