Have you ever lost your finely crafted words by being called away and having the session timeout?
Do you switch between Wordpress and Joomla and miss the automatic saving of edits in progress in the other system?
Do you edit on a Mac and habitually press Cmd+s to save your work - and find that TinyMCE crashes you out without saving?
The Joomla content plugin xbAutoSave allows for timed automatic saving of work whilst editing an article or triggering a save with Ctrl+S and Cmd+S (mac).
(a bug in the default Joomla TinyMCE setup means that if using TinyMCE Cmd+S often causes the editor to crashes out without saving whether or not AutoSave is installed. Cmd+S works fine using JCE. Hopefully the Joomla-TinyMCE bug will get fixed one day)
NB This only works in the Admin backend - it is not active when editing content in the frontend. v2.x also disables itself when creating a new article until you have made a manual save. This gives you time to set status, category, access and publishing options before autosave kicks in and saves with the default values which will reveal your draft efforts to the world at large.
The autosave interval can be set in seconds (minimum 30sec) and timed save and keystroke save can be enabled separately.
This was based on the CtrlS plugin by Chupurnov Valeriy which is still available but hasn't been updated since 2015 and has some minor issues. This version requires Joomla 3 as a minimum.
