ProFiles Popular Component

ProFiles is the next generation web file manager.
From the creators of Proforms and Mad4Joomla.

ProFiles maps the look and feel of a desktop file explorer to the web. The usage of this web file explorer is almost the same as you know it from your favorite operating system.

Even system-related characteristics such as short keys for element selection are taken into account per operating system. If you run ProFiles in a Windows™ environment you can use the Windows™ short keys which in turn differ on an OSX™ environment.

The Joomla™ version of ProFiles additionally supports Joomla’s ™ rights management.
ProFiles is used at the backend of Joomla™.
ProFiles allows you to create multiple `root folders`. Based on user groups you can apply different rights to the user groups for each root folder. Thereby you can exactly determine which user group may view, read or write to a certain root folder.

One of the most convenient functions of this web file manager is the support of drag and drop uploads for modern browser. Just mark your files on your desktop and drag them to the folder listing of ProFiles. Each file will be uploaded with a progress bar.

All USP’s at a glance:
★ Supports all standard file actions which are given by PHP (Your server must allow this)
★ Easy drag’n drop upload for modern browsers.
★ Select / deselect files /folders with the operating system’s shortcuts.
★ Edit / read text based files directly in ProFiles (Source Code, XML, TXT …)
★ Listen to mp3’s, midi files or see FLV videos.
★ View images in preview mode and / or open them with ProFiles.
★ ZIP / UNZIP files and folders.
★ Upload ZIP files and directly unzip the content to the folder. (Only for normal uploads)
★ Search and sort folder or file listings.
★ Apply multiple root folders.
★ Apply rights to the root folders per user group.
★ Has a built-in diagnosis mode which tells you if ProFile’s functions are supported by your server.
★ Unique user experience by an excellent UI.

Supported browsers:
IE 9+, FF19+, Chrome 24+, Safari 5+ and Opera 12+
Please note that these browser versions are tested on support of the HTML 5 functions.
Older browsers may also be (partially) supported.

Supported languages:
English and German.
Translations are welcome.

I used eXtplorer until I found out how great this one is. It's amazing. Great job!

This is a full featured manager with less glitches than eXtplorer.

Highly recommended!

I tried this component on some Joomla Installations and only one server had problems with drag & drop, but i found a solution (in the js folder edit the file xhrupload.js; search for X_FILENAME - row 63 and change it to X-FILENAME - some servers don't like the underscore here). All other things worked fine and ACL is wonderfull. Thanks for this great extension!

Worked at once without a single problem! The interface is clean and comprehensible.
One small glitch I encountered: The files and folder names are not sorted alphabetically neither in the folder tree nor in the file list. I can sort them in the file list by clicking on the "Name" header but not in the folder tree.
I now give it a 9/10 but with that glitch fixed, it would be a perfect 10 for me!

Did exactly what I wanted w/ no muss, no fuss. Drag-n-drop didn't work, but the essentially functionality is all there.

One quibble: the download was a folder that I had to zip up before I could install. Seems like the download should be directly installable.

Okay, this is seriously good software. I installed it on a Website (Joomla 2.5 viewed in Firefox) that I'm building for some less-than-techie administrators. The core Joomla Media Manager doesn't have the features that they need and ProFiles fits the bill. I can give my client text file editing capability and the drag-and-drop functions. The extension can be configured so that they only have access to the images directory. There are a few spelling errors in the English language version but those are easily overlooked.

The whole component is fast loading, dynamic and beautiful but I have a problem and a dislike.

The problem is with Safari 6.05 under Mountain Lion, the drag and Drop feature starts working but never ends the upload of the files even it says that 100% has been loaded. The progress circle goes on and on and only when you cancel starts to upload the second file, bur finally files are never uploaded.

When uploading through list mode it works with no problem.

And the dislike is about opening folders with double click, it does not work, it opens a contextual menu where you can click on open/edit option, but no direct folder opening through double click.

For me good extension, but the drag and drop does not work ... There are no special configurations or options to do to make it work.

I am very happy! This component is very good! It looks good, fast and it is always available!
But I have a little problem with it. I tried to remove a few files from the administrator/languages/en-GB directory. Marked three files (CTRL+Click) and clicked on Delete button. Successfully deleted all files from this directory, not only the selected files! Please fix this problem! Joomla 2.5.11 Thank you!

I tried different file manager for joomla - but this is the best. It looks modern, use ajax, drag and drop and much more.
Only one thing missed - copy file path (url) in menus.
Thanks for your work!

This is by far one of the best new entries for joomla I have seen. The file explorer is very easy to use and already has some nice features. Can't wait for the next version to come!

I had a small installation bug and contacted Mad4Media. The team was very generous and helped me installing Profiles.
Profiles is a must have tool for every Joomla user.
Without exaggeration this component let me forget that using a web application at the back-end of Joomla.

Simply excellent!

I always thought extplorer is king.
The king is dead long live the king.

This software is brand new and I couldn't find any flaw.
It really feels like a window explorer.
Sure the drag and drop upload is fantastic but more than this I prefer the rights management.
This is the first file manager extension supporting ACL.
Great!

Many thanx for this piece of gold.

Super easy, quick, stable, almost better than Windows Explorer.
Got nothing bad to say about this extension :)
