SP Download ComponentPlugin

Editor's Note
  • This extension requires registration to download.
With SP Download you can attach and edit files from the front end as well as from the administrative back end. This is the core Joomla Media Manager with the ability to easily upload and attach files to articles and all other types of content.

Many times we want to attach files for download in our articles. We needed an easy way to do that, and unfortunately Joomla Media Manager allowed only images handling. So we modified the component and added this exact functionality.

While editing any article from back end, or front end you are now able to upload from your PC and attach in your article ready to download.

If you are already familiar with Joomla Media Manager, then you will have no problem using that component.

1. Media manager is unable to upload pdf file despite of specification at MIME
2. SP Download button is not attaching the file as attachment icon but it shows as a whole picture in the article. After save and publish, it will display as a broken picture link in the web site.
3. Support is good but unable to resolve the issue.
4. I abandon the extension and use another extension
5. My Joomla version is 3.1.1

Simple extension to the core content editor which makes life easier.

One one thing I struggle with; pdf files upload to subdirectories of the default /images folder using the extension and appear in Media Manager. However, SP Download doesn't seem to be able to find them afterwards. No problem if they are in the /images folder though. A little odd but I've tried everything I can see to sort it out.

Don't let this put users off though, as this extension is otherwise really good and simple to use :-)

This is an easy to use extension that allows upload directly from the article. I like that the download link can be inserted anywhere and multiple download links can be scattered throughout an article if needed.

I did have an issue getting PDF files to upload through the SP control but have gotten that cleared up.

If anyone is having trouble uploading pdf files (using V 2.0) add application/x-pdf to the accepted MIME types in the component options. Since PDF files are probably the most downloaded document, this should probably be added as a default MIME type.

I have found this to be one of the most useful components for my website. It's simple to use, and when it's configured correctly (I'm still new to Joomla stuff), it's just a simple editor button that allows you to add a file for readers to download. No more adding files and attaching them. You just add them - it's that easy.

Tried a few other extensions that did not deliver what this extension does, clean and easy to use, great thanks from Denmark

Unfortunately I can only give five stars otherwise would have given more.
Had a problem getting this to work, and although I resolved it myself in the end, the speed of the email response from the developer was excellent.

This extension does exactly what it says on the tin - fantastic little tool.

Since simpledownload is no longer available (Joomla 1.7), I trawled for somthing similar to help me out, but found all the others overly complicated and not giving me what I needed - just a simple textlink download within an article.

With SP Download, I found it! So easy to install and use. For my purposes I didn't need an image to be included with the download link, so I simply removed the image tag from the html, but I'm sure that it could be included in the php file as an option, I'm just not php fluent.

Thanks for this easy and effective extention!!

At first I had issues uploading any type of document and received an error but after I went into the Extension manager and refreshed the updates it corrected the error and I was able to quickly add a PDF attachment into my article in the format I was looking for. Great Job!!! :)

Just what I was looking for :)

Great component and great plugin although some features could still be added when compared with Attachment for Joomla 1.5.

Thank You.
