jDownloads exists in different releases for Joomla 1.5, 2.5 and 3.2. So make sure, that you download the correctly version for your Joomla.
Many language files are always included. Many others exists in our download area or on www.transifex.com.
The previously announced complete new jDownloads 2.5/3.2 releases are published as beta in April 2014 with many new features.
2) easy to install
3) easy to use
4) very flexible
I use this component for a sports club to share some files of interest to the members of the club only. the work for this club is voluntary, so I searched for a component which is free. this one works best for me!
keep up the excellent work!
A drawback of all these packages is that each file (download) item can only be referenced by a single category. It's true that you can create loads of categories and sub-categories, but each file can only belong to one of them at a time.
Fortunately, jDownloads allows you to use several other fields - and even create custom fields. With a little research and effort, I found that I was able to expand the search routines to cover as many fields as I wanted. This makes it - for me - by far the best of the other packages on offer.
The English language is slightly curious at points but, coming from a non-English developer, it's understandable and perfectly forgiveable.
It also relies fairly heavily on tables for display purposes, but there is easy access to the relevant templates and nothing to stop you substituting some decent CSS formats instead.
Overall, if you're looking for a really thorough and flexible component, I would strongly recommend that you start with this!
Only downside is their documentation. Looks like their working on it though..
This is the one you need. Just download it.
It is user-friendly, extremely well documented within the admin environment, and (most importantly) HIGHLY adaptable for any layout. This should be the benchmark for not just other download management extensions, but every component in general (including the core installation).
Well done, good sir! Well done!
The frontend edit functionality and the granular user group permissions powers get jDownloads up.
The layout system is also very useful. I can add/remove anything to/from any place from the Joomla editor.
Lastly, the content plugin is very powerful. It has so much options as you feel like it's a separate component.
Thanks for this great component Arno!
sometimes the file is uploaded but then afterwards it cannot be found. Even if I can upload, the original chinese file name will become strange characters. If I disable the BE option to remove space and special characters, problem still exists.
The frontend upload is quick and easy to use. Staff have been uploading content on a regular basis without any real problems. JDownloads also has many plug-ins as well, and the ones I've used work flawlessly.
Current version (build 931) seems to have fixed my only gripes (had build 925 previously) which was issues with Google Chrome. It use to be that I could not delete files from the frontend, and also could not Cancel out of a file in the backend. These problems are fixed now! All is good!
Many thanks for your positive review.
Your quoted problems with some buttons in the jDownloads backend, has exists only for some users and has to do with the activated editors and special template settings.
Free, no login to download, extremely easy to install and use, works exceptionally well, lets me have catetories for public, author, etc... just upload the files to a folder, WOW how easy is that?
I just wonder what these folks are getting out of all this... I mean, they don't even ask for an EMAIL address to get the component and all the plugins & modules. They must be independently wealthy!
Thanks for such a great component, you have saved my life.
The main lack is that it actually miss RSS feeds that i hope will be included in new version. (so, please Arno add it)
Another problem for me was the upgrade from j1.5 version to 1.6+ (joomla). The backup function does not work as it should!
By the way, joomla download components are quite too simple. This is sure one of the best.. And can be sure the top with some new functions.. RSS...?
Thanks for your review. But why has you not posted your backup/restore problem in the support forum?
By the way, i think you has not exactly observed the Joomla 2.5 update how-to in the FAQ. It is very important that you install the last jD 1.8.x release before you create the new backup file.
It has a small issue with handling a lot of categories and some features are still missing, but most users won't need that many features.
Also, Arno is always available on the forums when you need him.
Looking forward to jD 2.0 :D!
