Changelog 2.12.0 :
^ Upgrade to JW Flash Player 5.9.2156.
^ Upgrade to jwplayer.js 5.9.2156.
After spending an hour trying to purchase the new jwplayer license, we discovered that the website was so buggy that we could not register for purchase. That should have been a sign to us. The good news is that the webmaster is very quick to respond to inquiries and requests, and got us registered.
To our surprise and dismay, after purchasing a commercial license of jwplayer (we are non profit but wanted a non-branded player) we discovered that A LOT of features that were extremely important to us in the 4.x version have been inexplicably REMOVED from the latest version -- with no warning or explanation.
For example, the DisplayClick feature is gone, and so is setting the video to toggle "Mute/Off Mute". That's a very basic feature to remove without telling anyone.
In fairness, it's LongTailvideo, the vendor that jwplayer is built on, that deprecated features like this but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter whose fault it is, you still end up not having the functionality you need for basic functionality. Bells and whistles, yes, basic functionality, no.
Try the free version, and if it works for you then no harm no foul. I believe that the support is quick and timely but ultimately this plugin was money down the drain for us this time.
Hello,
It's true that since 5.x version of JW player, who was released one year ago, some flashvars has been deprecated (not so much, around 3 or 4) but this has been made for optimize the flahplayer and as you notice yourself it's not our own decision but Longtail video does.
Also note that we have forwarded you to our commercial version who have the abilities to switch between version (4.x or 5.x and soon 6.x), this has solved you issue, it's pity that you omit to write it here.
Best regards
Overall, I'd say it does what it says it will do with just a little effort to setup. Thanks for use of the module!
Works great!!! my site is now better, because I show many videos in a short space and the level of support received is very professional. I've had a few problems because of my ignorance but the help was quickly and useful.
Excuse my mistakes I am spanish speaker
By far, this one is the most updated one and works smoothly.
The installation, as well as every upgrade, is really simple.
The module interface allows literally to configure everything (in fact, there is a final open field for flashvars).
But the thing I appreciate most is the support team. I've had only a few questions and they have been answered in a matter of hours! They gave me a very professional feeling. Moreover, they seem to pay attention to any user feature-request.
In summary, I am very happy with this product.
Cheers!
Sergio
thanks to the builders.
Perhaps contacting them or using the forum I may have been able to clear it up, but the fact is there are other extensions that get the job done much more quickly and without the hassle of jumping trough hoops to get them to work properly.
I don't have time to mess around. I need an extension that either works out of the box and/or has much better documentation than this one.
Time is money. If you're in a hurry, and need a player that works with little hassle, I wouldn't recommend this one.
I'm sure this is probably a great extension if you have the time to work out all the kinks. I don't have the time. If you don't either, I would look elsewhere.
Hello,
I take note of your review but this doesn't help here (me as developper and Joomla users who read this), your experience is based on a feeling not a real experience, this problem you describe can come from many reason other than the extension itself.
You say time is money, you have already try this product few month ago, then try again, then you review it here, I think during all this time it was possible for you to ask for help in our forum and understand what's happen.
You say the documentation is poor, there are around 50 pages of documentation, for me it’s not poor, your issue is not yet documented, this is possible but I can’t answer on it like you don’t have ask support in our forum.
Also, you are talking about a plugin !? to edit article ? I don’t understand this, you have commented here a module, there is no "plugin php file", can you give me the exact name of the file/package you have try to install and also the name of the pdf documentation you have read ? more i am reading this more i am pretty sure that you are talking about another extension.
Please feel free to contact us for understanding your issue.
Best Regards
Performance - works almost perfectly. Serves up standard def and hi-def video on desktops.
Works on Apple devices and Android devices almost flawlessly (small resize issue with Apple devices)
Falls back to Flash player exactly as expected.
Supoprt - Haven't needed it because of the very detailed documentation and forums.
Functions much like other video plugins (like AllVideos or AllVideos Reloaded). I haven't used the module because I am putting all our video content into articles via the plugin. So if you have any experience calling a plugin from within an article, you can use JW Player.
This next comment has nothing to do with the product but I feel it is important to note:
You have to encode your video properly if you want to move to HTML5. No player/plugin will work if your video isn't sized and encoded properly.
Please note that a pdf details documentation of 48 pages is available since the 2.6.0 version (14 January 2011, 5 days before your review), just click on the documentation button above for download it.
We made it after the review of Forlio, as we always try to listen carefully users of our extensions.
