Introduction
More than pins on a map. Webris Maps embeds rich, multi-layer interactive maps into your Joomla site — markers, GPS tracks, heatmaps, polygons, WMS overlays, and data visualizations — all rendered with OpenLayers 10 on your choice of 29+ base layers.
Build your map visually at webris.pro, then embed it in Joomla with one tag. No database tables installed. No admin panel to learn. No Google Maps API key required (though Google is supported if you have one).
Two ways to embed
— Content Plugin: drop {webris uuid="..." /} in any article. Set height, width, border style, and CSS classes right in the tag.
— Site Module: place a map in any template position via Module Manager. Each instance has its own settings.
What your maps can include
— Versatile layer types: markers with rich callouts, GPS tracks with elevation/speed charts, lines, polygons, heatmaps, clusters, GeoJSON, WMS overlays, CSV data
— 29+ base layers: OpenStreetMap, Carto, Esri (8 variants including satellite and ocean), Google Maps, Stamen/Stadia, OpenTopoMap, CyclOSM — plus custom XYZ, WMS, WMTS, and ArcGIS connections
— Styling: categorical coloring, choropleth shading, graduated symbols — classify your data visually, not just pin it
— Built-in controls: interactive legends, layer switcher, measurement tools, fullscreen, scale bar
How it works
1. Create your map at webris.pro using the visual editor
2. Publish the map to generate an encrypted embed bundle
3. Paste the UUID into a {webris} tag or module — done
The extension loads a lightweight viewer script (once per page) and an AES-256 encrypted bundle per map. Multiple maps on one page share the viewer. No GIS data is exposed in your page source.
Built for modern Joomla
— Joomla 5.x and 6.x native (namespace architecture, service providers)
— Responsive — maps adapt to any container width, mobile-friendly
— Zero database footprint — nothing stored in your Joomla installation
— Smart Search aware — {webris} tags stripped during indexing
— Update server included — updates appear in Extensions → Update automatically
— Self-hosted Webris instance support via plugin/module settings
From WISroGIS to Webris
This extension continues the WISroGIS lineage — published on JED since July 2008. WISroGIS was a self-hosted Joomla GIS engine with maps, layers, markers, and styles managed inside the Joomla admin. Webris takes a different approach: the map editor lives at
webris.pro with modern tools (OpenLayers 10, TypeScript, real-time preview), and Joomla receives lightweight encrypted bundles. The result: richer maps, simpler integration, no maintenance overhead in Joomla.
Free extension. A Webris account at webris.pro is needed to create maps (free tier available).
