The RSGallery2 team is pleased to announce the release of RSGallery2 3.2.0 for Joomla 2.5.x and RSGallery2 2.3.0 for Joomla 1.5.x. These are security releases, users are advised to upgrade immediately.
A special thank you goes to Stergios Kolios (ster [dot] kolios [at] gmail [dot] com) who reported the security issues and was so kind to offer his help and expertise.
= Description =
RSGallery2 is a full featured, easy to use, highly customisable, gallery component for Joomla!
Users can upload their images via frontend and backend, via single file upload, batch upload or ftp upload. Galleries containing images can have as many (nested) subgalleries as you want. Galleries and images can be moved around easily. Three graphics libraries, used to make display and thumbnail images, are supported: GD2, ImageMagick and Netpbm. Images can have a watermark. Images can be regenerated after the settings for display image size and thumbnail image size are changed. The site administrator can set permissions for usergroups to be allowed to upload images, create galleries, edit, delete, (un)publish both images and galleries, vote and comment on images, just like the permissions for Joomla core components are set. View access for galleries can be set by the site administrator just like view acces for Joomla Categories. The look and feel can be customised by creating your own RSGallery2 templates.
RSGallery2 has been around since the Mambo days and was originally developed by Ronald Smit. Since then, RSGallery2 has evolved into what it is nowadays.

= Upgrade instructions =
Create a full backup of your files and database, as always before making changes to your site.
Note: upgrade will automatically overwrite all RSGallery2 system files, but it will leave your images untouched. So if you made any changes to the templates that are shipped with RSGallery2 they will be overwritten! You either have to backup the template or redo any custom changes after upgrading. Also, the comments in the database will be converted from BBCode format to HTML format.
On Joomla 2.5
Go to the Backend > Extensions > Install/Uninstall > Browse… (find the downloaded file) > Click Upload File & Install
On Joomla 1.5
Go to Joomla's Backend > Extensions > Install/Uninstall > Browse to package file... > Upload File & Install

Just one of the best components that I've ever used (and I've been using it for years). Entirely recommend it!
Yes, tried other offerings, wasted time and effort, got lucky with this one. Have been waiting for the 3.2 version to go public to review it as I had issues with the 3.1 version. Shared issues with the development team--supportive beyond belief. New beta versions offered for testing, tested, shared other issues, tested newer versions until I was deliriously happy. Have had no issues since. This is a true open source project and open source at its best. Back-end customization options should be all most could want and more advanced users will find tweaking the code easy peasy should the whim arise. Try this one first.
I was looking for a decent, easy-to-use and nice-looking gallery component, and it's been here all the time! I couldn't help falling in love in a very short time - and that has only kept growing.
A big plus is the ease of customizing the templates even more to fit my needs. With the help from exceptionally responsive support it's been a breeze to have my site exactly the look'n'feel I wanted.
Besides this is truly free with no strings attached - another great plus for a non-profit like myself.

I wanted an elegant gallery for Joomla 2.5 that users could create, edit and delete categories and images in frontend and this ticked all the boxes. Permissions can be set so that only particular user groups can edit all images or so that users can only edit their own images. Clean, stylish gallery with slideshow. I tried numerous galleries and this one looked the best and is easy for frontend users.
It took me almost two hours to configure and read the documentation/search the forums to find out how to set the permissions. Now users can create, edit and delete their own categories and images, but they also have the option to see other users galleries inside "My galleries" tab along with the create, edit and delete buttons, even though they can't do anything to the other users galleries. I need something that won't allow them to see other users galleries inside "My galleries" tab. Having your gallery inside another user menu is ridiculous.
It was very tiring to make this work, and now I realize that what I did was a loop, that's why I gave it Very Poor rating. If it were easy to configure, and fully functional, I'd give Excellent rate and would also donate for the project, specially if it supported Community Builder.
I don't want to offend you, I just need you to pay attention at my issue and make this extension become what it means to be, an excellent extension.

Thank you for your time to create a review. You say "All users have access to add and edit each others images & directories.". For RSGallery2 3.x this depends on the permissions you give your users. You can indeed set it up so that each user can edit all images and galleries, but you can also set it up that only specific usergroups can edit all images and galleries or that users can edit only their own images and galleries. Permission to edit is implemented in the same way as in Joomla itself (compare it to Edit and Edit Own permissions for editing an article).
If you need help with this, please post on the forum found at www.rsgallery2.nl! If you feel that you've set permissions correctly and that there is a bug, please report it on the forum www.rsgallery2.nl with details, that way all users can benefit from feedback and bugs can be fixed.
wow, what can I say about this Component other than 1 million thank you's. I tried several before this and I wish I had tried yours first, it would of saved a lot of time. Wonderful Component. Works first time on install, no glitches, issues, nothing.

This is a great gallery, I have nothing bad to say about it. It took 2 minutes to install and start working on it.. but about an hour to go thru the entire website, find it, downloading and another 45 mins to get the basic steps... the site is just too messy... not very user friendly.... anyways, take it as a constructive criticism please.
I really like the package, working perfectly fine no error at all. The only thing I'm having problem is uploding large size photo example 1mb or more than that. As a admin and as a user there are problem uploding big file size. Already check my php.ini and rest the configuration. I don't know where I didn't miss checking and Why its not working. Anybody can help me to solve this problem Thanks.
I tried this earlier in the year and thought that it was quite good but had questions. I could not register on the support web site as I never got the confirmation e-mail. I tried several times and with different e-mail addresses as it wouldn't let me re-use the same one as it said it was already in use! All resulted in no confirmation e-mail (yes, I did check my junk mail folders).
There was no visible contact address outside of the forum to sort this out. I even asked on Joomla! forums but nobody could (or was prepared to) help get me into the forums. I gave up.
Re-visiting this today (Dec 2009), I see that it's now up to version 2.1 so I thought that I might give it a try and see if the registration issues have been resolved. Sadly, it's even worse with the web site totally inaccessible and reporting:
"509 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later."
How on earth does RSGallery2 get a POPULAR rating on Joomla! when it's so inaccessible? I think Joomla.org should exercise a bit of quality control here and only permit links to extensions which are a) available with valid links and working web sites, b) have demos available, and c) have some kind of basic support that is actually usable.
Sorry to be so negative but promoting an inactive extension just wastes my time and those of others too.

Been trying for 5-days straight and can't even install the damn gallery, on both my 1.5.9 and 1.5.15 sites.
Keep getting the error "Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package." whereas other galleries/components install just fine.
Asked in the forums no reply. Next thing you know, the site is now out of bandwidth. :(

So yes, RSGallery2 is alive! We request your patience a bit for the development of RSGallery2.
I have been using this extension for a long time. Still do, even on new sites. Has its quirks, like anything else, but is really a rock-solid extension.
What has me concerned is that their site has been down for an extremely long time, and does not show any signs of that changing. Has active development of this product ceased? Will we ever see the site again? If we cannot get answers to these questions, it may be time to find something else.

The site and the component is back with a new team and a new management. We are soon to release the next version of the Popular Joomla Gallery Extension, so do visit our website!
When I was using Community Builder I would give this an excellent rating. If you use Community Builder, RSGallery2 provides a load of great features but keeping it simple. I love a photo gallery that includes a searchbot and downloading photos was easy as well as allowing users in my site to create there own albums.
Now that I moved to JomSocial (which I prefer) RSGallery is also out as its focus is CB users. I hope one day it will support us JomSocial users if we don't already have a replacement.

I enjoy this composant, but there is a lot of bugs to fix. The last one I fixed by myself was a problem with backslashes generated by ' caracters in galery description and pictures descriptions.
Then please note this, in the template semantic, in html/gallery.php there is a lak of stipslashes functions.
Also, Y tried to register an account on the home website, and it seems that I can't receive the account activation mail...then I can't give the solution for the backslashes problem while there is already 2 users claiming for a solution in the support forum.

Yes, the forums aren't working right now after a failed attempt to migrate to PHPBB3. I'm not sure if to try to fix them or just start afresh, but hopefully one of us will have the time to do something this month.
From what I've found, this is the best available gallery system for Joomla 1.0.15. That being said.......
Be for-warned - I just spent the last 2 hours deleting spam from the commenting system. I looked at my backend configuration and it was setup so that commenting was available for registered users but public commenting was set off. It didn't matter because the public was still able to add comments. By the time I came across the spam entries, I had about 5000 that needed to be deleted. This is a SERIOUS flaw.

I have tried and tried and tried many Photo Galleries and I have finally found one I can use! It lets me have categories, it lets me have a slideshow, it let's me have descriptions, it has lightbox effect, it has batch uploading, it has many features I haven't even used yet. The only thing it lacks is variations on the front end layout. There are three layout templates you can download but I would love to see more options!
