Event Gallery is an easy to use gallery component for Joomla. It supports flexible and responsive layouts and provides a unique way of presenting images. If presenting is not enough enable the cart! Let users browse through your images and buy them.
Event Gallery 3 adds a full cart&checkout process to the gallery.
PHP 5.5.9 introduced a bug which causes images to look very blurry (https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=66714). Disable image sharpening in the components options until this is fixed.
But back to the initial description. The extension market for Joomla gallery components is pretty crowded. Because of this I decided to build another one ;-). Initially I wanted to present images for specific events. In addition people should be allowed to add comments to images. But requirement changed over time and more and more features where added.
Just one word to the used terminology. Because I wanted to display images for events, the used terms are chosen accordingly. Today an event is more a folder containing images. Maybe I'll change this in later versions but currently it is like that.
- Joomla 2.5 / 3.1 / 3.2 compatible
- Supports responsive layouts
- Includes Google Picasa Webalbums and local stored images
- ICC profile support
- Image processing like sharpening
- Password / User Group protected folders
- Five configurable ways to display images
- Comments for images
- Integrated Lightbox support
- Image management using the back end
- Supports FTP uploads
- Multiple file upload with modern browsers
- Cart&Checkout for images
- swipe support for the lightbox and the lightbox is fixed in the screen
- Social Sharing (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Direct Download, Pinterest)
Since the install package is pretty large make sure your upload limit is high enough. If not just the download link to install it using the Joomla Extension Manager.
If you encounter any issues please let me know. Usually they can be solved in a couple of hours or even faster. Please check the requirement section in the manual to sort out possible issues as soon as possible.
Installation is pretty straight forward and easy to do, configuration is just as easy. Had to contact the developer with a few questions and was able to not only get a reply quickly but was able to debug a few things that weren't part of the component itself but were core features that made modifications to the templates.
But the thing that really makes it stand out is the support Sven gives, excellent!! A role model for other developers :-)
The backend is simple to use and user friendly with video tutorials. After watching the tutorials I decided to upgrade to the subscription to get additional functionality and I am very pleased with my purchase.
I also contacted the developer for possible feature requests mostly pertaining to the commenting system. Mostly because I think integrating the comment system with StackIdeas Komento would be perfect as opposed to having to manage several commenting systems. He replied within an hour and said he'd consider it even though hes not a fan of integrating with other extensions, which is definitely understandable.
So what are you waiting for? Try it out and enjoy!
You can set many parameters to personalize your gallery such as the title, the size of thumbnails, their number on the first page and on the following ones, the quality of pictures, the application of a sharpening filter and so on. You can add links to social networks and so on, but I have not used those options up to now. As well I have not used the features to sell pictures, but they are in.
I am very new to Joomla (about one month) and found the extension workflow very easy and straightforward (and well documented too): it only consist in three steps: you create a Gallery (assigning name and main options, as e.g. visibility to Public or Registered users only), then populate it uploading photos (using the embedded function) and finally you create the Menu item (which generates the presentation page). Only in this latter phase you decide the Gallery layout, so you can easily change it or you can even create more than one presentation of the same Gallery (i.e. collection of pictures) with different layouts, e.g. in different Menus. All is done within the Joomla backend and there is no need of using external tools to upload. Additionally the folders to accomodate the pictures are automatically created in the first phase, so you do not have to bother with Media Manager etc. Similarly you do not need to perform particular resizing jobs of pictures before you upload them because resizing is performed by the extension itself: so I standardized the TV HD format (i.e. max 1920x1080 pixels) that looks great in lightboxes and is not too heavy to upload. Smaller images are faster to upload but produce smaller lightbox images, greater image sizes are heavier and generally useless.
As to the support... really incredible: I only have the free version and, after creating a dozen of Galleries in one website, I found a minor bug in one of them. I sent a ticket through the Joomla backend Extension Manager on Friday around noon. After less than two hours, the author (Sven Brugge) replied asking for some clarification. I was not at the PC at that time, so I could not answer immediately, but 30 minutes later Sven wrote me again saying he identified the bug and provided me with a new version that fixed the problem, and also explained me (as said I am very new to Joomla) how to install it without losing my content. Two days later I had another minor issue that was resolved in about 3 hours, with great kindness.
Thank you Sven.
Sorry to hear that. I can't remember a single support request which ended unsolved so far. So please don't try to be the first one and get in touch with me again.
End of last year, I did finally found what I need in the "Event Gallery".
It does all what I expect and even better that I thought !
The Ajax loading of the thumbnails, as they are required by their visibility, and the server side size adaptation of them are good performance features.
But also the backend, for setting up galleries, is easy and intuitive in use.
Thanks a lot to Sven for this great Work, his support and his continuous development.
I case of issues it is always a very good idea to contact me first. Usually I can help out very quickly.
