Introduction

Identity Manager lets visitors sign in to Joomla with an external identity, link a provider to their local account, or create an account when registration is enabled. The same installable package can act as a client, a Joomla identity provider, or both.

Connect two Joomla sites through an OAuth 2.0 authorization code flow with PKCE and an OpenID Connect subset. The provider authenticates its member; the client opens its own local session without receiving the member's password. A guided setup form prepares the standard Joomla endpoints from the provider site's HTTPS address.

GitHub and Google adapters are included through Hybridauth. Configurable OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect providers are also available. Google and GitHub buttons include their logos; a linked site's favicon can be configured. Choose the destination after external sign-in in each native Login module: the home page, an existing menu item or a URL on the same site. Consent screens explain the requested profile and email information in plain language.

Account creation follows both Joomla's registration setting and Identity Manager's automatic account creation setting. An existing local account must be authenticated before a new external identity can be linked through the standard flow. Users manage their linked identities from the front end. Removing the last active external provider requires proof of the local Joomla password so that the user retains a way to sign in.

Administrators manage providers, client applications and linked accounts, export activity logs to CSV, clear logs and configure retention. French and British English interfaces and installation guides are included. Updates use Joomla's extension update system with package checksums.

Requires Joomla 6, PHP 8.3 or later, MySQL/MariaDB, HTTPS, cURL and OpenSSL. Runtime dependencies are bundled; Composer is not required on the destination site. External services require their own application credentials and callback configuration. Download pkg_identitymanager-1.0.5.zip from GitHub Releases; the source-code archives are not installable Joomla packages.

GitHub and Joomla-to-Joomla sign-in flows have been tested on Joomla 6.2.0 / PHP 8.3.30. Google is implemented but has not been tested with a live Google OAuth application. Self-hosted WordPress requires its own OAuth/OIDC server extension and has not been tested. Provider catalog entries do not certify every provider. No OpenID certification or endorsement by Joomla, Google or GitHub is claimed. Screenshots show a local demonstration.
