SMTP Senpai
Introduction
SMTP Senpai connects the email your Joomla site sends (registration and password emails, contact forms, order emails, notifications) to SMTP Senpai, the SMTP relay and REST email API by MailSenpai, hosted in the European Union. This extension requires an SMTP Senpai account: SMTP Senpai is a commercial hosted service, not GPL software. The plugin itself is licensed under the GNU GPL version 2 or later and has no paid features. Until it is configured, Joomla keeps using its own mailer and the plugin makes no request to anyone. Two ways to send - API key (recommended): each email is sent with an HTTPS request to the SMTP Senpai API. It works even where the hosting provider blocks outgoing SMTP ports. - SMTP: Joomla connects to the SMTP Senpai relay (port 2525, STARTTLS) with your SMTP username and password. What you get - Works for the whole site: every email prepared by Joomla and its extensions, including the Send Test Mail button of the Global Configuration. - To, Cc, Bcc, Reply-To, HTML and plain text, attachments, custom X- headers. - Sender address and name, with an option to force them for every email. - Optional fallback to the mailer of the Global Configuration when the API cannot accept an email. Off by default, never used for addresses on your suppression list. - Status and tools page inside the plugin: account status with the monthly volume included, used and remaining; a test email with the exact answer of the API when something is wrong; a sender domain check that reads SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX and says in plain words what to fix. - Email log: date, status, method, recipients, subject, message ID and error. Message bodies and attachments are never stored. Privacy mode masks the addresses and drops the subjects. Old entries are deleted automatically. - Help page: the common problems (sender domain not verified, key not valid, account suspended, monthly volume used up, site that cannot reach the service) explained in plain words, each with the page where it is fixed. - English and Italian interface. Clean by design - The Global Configuration is read, never changed. No core file and no line of configuration.php is touched: disable the plugin and Joomla sends as before. - The API key and the SMTP password are never shown again in full, only their last four characters, and they are never written in the log. - No tracking, no telemetry, no external scripts, fonts or images. Nothing is added to the public pages of your site. - Uninstalling removes the settings, the log table and the cached answers. Good to know - With the API key method there is no real Cc or Bcc: To, Cc and Bcc are merged and every address receives an individual copy, up to 50 recipients per email. Up to 10 attachments and 10 MB in total. Images embedded in the message are sent as attachments. If you need visible Cc headers or embedded images, use the SMTP method. - What is sent to the service: with the API key method, each email (recipients, sender, subject, body, attachments) with your API key; the API key when you open the plugin's page, to show the account status; only the domain name when you use the domain check. SMTP Senpai is made by MailSenpai, the EU email marketing platform (newsletters, automations, AI assistant). Requirements: Joomla 4.4, 5.x or 6.x. PHP 7.2.5 or later. An SMTP Senpai account.
