DockAccess AI Alt Generator writes alternative texts for the images in your Joomla articles with AI and saves them straight into the article. Screen reader users get a description of every picture, and your articles get closer to WCAG success criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content without hours of manual work.

Requires an active dockaccess.org subscription: an AI Alt Generator plan or an accessibility widget plan. The extension itself is free software under the GNU GPL.

FEATURES

One list of all article images: the intro image and the full article image of every article, with search and a filter for images without an alt text.
Generate one alt text per click, or select many images and run a bulk generation, one image at a time.
The alt text is written to the article's Images and Links tab straight away. Edit it in the list or in the article form at any time.
Alt texts follow the article language. An article for all languages gets one in the default site language.
Context and tone: describe your site in up to 500 characters and pick one of tones, from concise to descriptive.
Two-way sync with your dockaccess.org account: alt texts edited in Joomla are sent to the account, and changes made in the account come back to Joomla through a signed endpoint.
Daily usage on screen. A bulk run waits out the per-minute cap and stops cleanly when the daily limit of your plan is reached.

ACCESSIBILITY AND PRIVACY

Admin screens with labelled fields, live status messages and native controls, checked with axe against WCAG 2.2 AA.
Your dockaccess.org password is used once to connect the site and is never stored. Tokens and keys are stored encrypted with a key derived from your site secret.
An image leaves your site only when you generate an alt text for it: the file, the article language and your context go to the dockaccess.org alt generator, which describes the image with Google Gemini. Images hosted on other servers are listed but never sent.

GETTING STARTED

Install the package in System > Install > Extensions.
Open Components > DockAccess AI Alt Generator > Connection and paste the site token from your dockaccess.org account (My account > Sites), together with your login and password.
Open Alt texts and generate.

The package contains a component and a content plugin, which is enabled on install. Updates come through the Joomla updater. Interface in English and Polish.
