Accent Letters adds two buttons under the editor.
Accent Letters opens a searchable picker over 682 accented letters from 55 languages and inserts the one you choose at the cursor. Search matches the letter, its Unicode name, the accent mark, the languages that use it, its code point and its Windows Alt code, so "two dots", "spanish", "00e9" and "é" all find é. There is a filter for each of the 55 languages, and the letters you use most float to the top.
Remove Accents rewrites the selected text: Crème brûlée in São Paulo becomes Creme brulee in Sao Paulo. Letters that Unicode cannot decompose — ø, ł, đ, ß, æ, œ, þ and Turkish dotless ı — are converted too, which a plain normalisation misses. Two plugin options let you turn that off, or write ä as ae in the traditional German way.
Both buttons work in TinyMCE, CodeMirror and None, because they go through Joomla’s editor API rather than any one editor. Remove Accents acts only on the text you have selected, and it parses HTML so that your tags and attributes are left alone — an alt="café" stays as it was.
It works offline. The letters are a JSON file inside the plugin, fetched from your own site the first time you open the picker. The plugin contacts no other server, sets no cookie, and collects nothing.
The letters are generated from the Unicode Character Database 16.0.0 and CLDR 48.2.0, and are the same data the Accent Letters website and its other add-ons use, so they cannot drift apart.
Requires Joomla 5.0 or later. Verified in Joomla 5.4.8 and 6.1.3, in both cases with the backward-compatibility plugin disabled.
