Introduction

Sports & Games, Sports

JoomLeague 6.2 is a comprehensive, open-source sports competition management extension for Joomla.

The 6.2 release line introduces a newly designed, sport-neutral architecture. Instead of being limited to football-
style competitions, JoomLeague can represent team sports, individual contests, set-based sports, races, combat
sports and other competition formats through configurable sport profiles.

It provides tools for managing the complete competition lifecycle, from sports and participants to schedules,
results, standings, statistics and public presentation.

### Sport Profiles

JoomLeague 6.2 includes configurable profiles for 15 sports:

  • Basketball
  • Bowling and nine-pin bowling
  • Chess
  • Darts
  • Esports
  • Floorball
  • Football
  • Futsal
  • Ice hockey
  • MMA and boxing
  • Motorsport
  • Rugby
  • Running races
  • Tennis
  • Volleyball

Sport profiles define the structure and default behaviour of a sport, including:

  • participant and contest types,

  • positions and functions,
  • event types,
  • statistics,
  • scoring units,
  • match or event structure,
  • periods, sets, legs, rounds and segments,
  • standings rules,
  • points allocation,
  • line-up requirements,
  • result validation,
  • forfeits, extra time and shootouts,
  • default presentation settings.

Administrators can use bundled definitions or create their own positions, events and statistics. The runtime logic
is designed around profile configuration instead of hard-coded sport names.

    Competition Management

    JoomLeague supports the administration of:

  • sport types and sport profiles,

  • seasons,
  • competitions,
  • projects,
  • stages and competition phases,
  • rounds and schedules,
  • matches and general sporting events,
  • clubs and teams,
  • individual participants,
  • players, staff and officials,
  • venues,
  • line-ups and substitutions,
  • structured results,
  • event timelines,
  • statistics,
  • standings,
  • knockout brackets,
  • historical names and media.

Projects may represent leagues, cups, tournaments, friendly competitions, combined stages and other profile-defined
    competition formats.

    Universal Results

The result model is not restricted to a simple home and away score. Depending on the selected sport profile, it can
    represent:

  • numeric scores,

  • period scores,
  • set and leg hierarchies,
  • extra time,
  • shootouts,
  • race times,
  • points,
  • rankings,
  • nested score segments,
  • multiple participants,
  • forfeited, postponed, cancelled or abandoned events.

This makes the same component suitable for traditional team sports as well as individual and multi-participant
    competitions.

    Standings

Standings are calculated automatically from published competition data.

    Supported functionality includes:

  • total, home and away standings,

  • profile-defined scoring rules,
  • configurable sorting criteria,
  • head-to-head rules,
  • score and points differences,
  • form and progression data,
  • manual points adjustments and penalties,
  • automatic recalculation when relevant results change.

Administrators do not need to trigger routine table recalculation manually.

    Templates and Presentation

JoomLeague 6.2 provides two levels of presentation configuration:

  • global defaults associated with a sport profile,

  • project-specific template settings.

This allows every sport to define suitable presentation defaults while individual competitions can override them
    without changing the global profile.

    The frontend includes views for:

  • competition overviews,

  • schedules,
  • results,
  • standings,
  • participants,
  • clubs and teams,
  • person profiles,
  • venues,
  • event reports,
  • statistics and rankings,
  • knockout brackets,
  • form and standings progression,
  • calendars and iCalendar exports.

Project templates can control which sections are displayed for a particular competition.

    Frontend Modules

The complete package includes 16 frontend modules for displaying competition information throughout a Joomla
    website.

The module suite covers areas such as:

  • competitions,

  • clubs,
  • participants,
  • personnel,
  • programme and schedules,
  • upcoming events,
  • recent results,
  • standings,
  • statistical rankings,
  • event rankings,
  • venue programmes,
  • calendar information,
  • navigation,
  • live or current competition information.

The modules use Joomla module positions and configuration rather than requiring a dedicated template.

    Joomla Integration

JoomLeague 6.2 integrates with Joomla functionality instead of replacing it with proprietary alternatives.

    Integration includes:

  • Joomla ACL,

  • Joomla Custom Fields,
  • component configuration through com_config,
  • Joomla Scheduler tasks,
  • Smart Search integration,
  • Quick Icons,
  • Joomla update services,
  • guided tours,
  • multilingual language constants,
  • canonical URLs,
  • Open Graph metadata,
  • Schema.org structured data,
  • Joomla media handling,
  • Joomla routing and menu items.

The administration interface follows the native Joomla administrator design and toolbar conventions.

    Custom Fields

Joomla Custom Fields can be used to extend supported JoomLeague entities without modifying the database schema or
    component source code.

This allows site administrators to add organisation-specific information while retaining update compatibility.

    Event Reports

JoomLeague uses the sport-neutral term Event Report rather than assuming every competition consists of matches.

    An event report can include:

  • participants,

  • line-ups,
  • staff,
  • substitutions,
  • officials,
  • timelines,
  • sport-specific events,
  • structured score segments,
  • statistics,
  • venue information,
  • calendar exports.

The available sections depend on the selected sport profile and project configuration.

    Database Support

JoomLeague 6.2 is designed and tested for:

  • MariaDB/MySQL

  • PostgreSQL

Both database implementations follow the same functional schema contract and behaviour.

    Migration from Earlier JoomLeague Versions

JoomLeague 6.2 uses a new database architecture and is not directly database-compatible with JoomLeague 6.1.x or
    earlier releases.

An existing JoomLeague installation must not be converted by simply installing 6.2 over the production website.

Legacy data can be converted using the dedicated migration service:

    https://migrate.joomleague.eu/

The migration workflow is designed to process data from historical JoomLeague installations, including older
database structures. It detects legacy sports, positions, events and statistics and allows the user to review their
mapping to the new sport profiles.

A complete website and database backup must always be created before migration. Initial migration testing should be
    performed on a separate website.

    Installation Package

    The JoomLeague suite package installs:

  • the main JoomLeague component,

  • 16 frontend modules,
  • console integration,
  • content integration,
  • Smart Search integration,
  • administrator Quick Icons,
  • Joomla Scheduler integration.

The installer includes pre-installation checks, post-installation information and an administration guided tour.

    Intended Users

    JoomLeague can be used by:

  • sports clubs,

  • leagues and associations,
  • tournament organisers,
  • schools and universities,
  • community competitions,
  • esports organisers,
  • individual race organisers,
  • multi-sport websites,
  • developers building sport-related Joomla solutions.
