Important Joomla language setting

Disable Joomla's built-in Language Filter plugin when using ConveyThis. Both systems can use language URL prefixes such as /es/, which can create conflicts. ConveyThis detects the Language Filter plugin and can offer to disable it.

URL rewriting

Enable URL Rewriting in Joomla Global Configuration.

On Apache servers, rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess if translated URLs return a 404 error.

Installation

1. In Joomla Administrator, go to System → Install → Extensions.
2. Search for ConveyThis and install it, or upload the extension ZIP package.
3. Open Components → ConveyThis.
4. Create a free ConveyThis account and confirm your email address.
5. Copy your API key from the ConveyThis dashboard.
6. Paste the API key into the Joomla extension.
7. Select the language your website is currently written in.
8. Choose the languages you want to add.
9. Save your settings.
10. Visit your website. The language switcher should now appear.

Your API key will look similar to pub_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. It is a public integration key.

If a translated URL returns a 404 error, enable Joomla URL Rewriting and check your web server rewrite configuration.

Editing translations

To edit translations after your website has been translated, open My Translations in your ConveyThis account.

You can also use the visual editor directly on your website to review translated pages in context.
