DC Charts
Introduction
DC Charts was created for one simple reason: Joomla 5 still lacked an easy, elegant and editor-friendly way to insert interactive charts directly into articles. Anyone who has ever needed to present data inside Joomla knows the struggle. Embedding iframes from Google Charts feels clunky, generating graphics in Canva is time-consuming, and none of these methods fit naturally into the editorial workflow. We wanted authors to be able to write an article, insert a simple shortcode with data, save the page and instantly see a professional chart—without connecting external APIs, without touching JavaScript, and without relying on heavy components. That idea became the foundation of DC Charts, a lightweight content plugin powered by the Chart.js library.
DC Charts allows you to insert clear, responsive and visually appealing charts directly in your Joomla articles using a short, readable shortcode. The plugin supports all essential types: pie charts 🥧, doughnut charts 🍩, bar charts 📊 and line charts 📈, allowing you to show both structured distribution of values and trends over time. You can add a title, labels, colors, legends and axis descriptions, and everything scales automatically to the width of the device. Whether the chart appears on a desktop page or a mobile screen, it always adapts perfectly to the template.
The plugin was designed specifically for Joomla 5 and works seamlessly in any template—including those built on Bootstrap 5—and does not require jQuery or external services. It loads a lightweight, modern version of Chart.js from CDN and uses only native Joomla mechanisms. This means fast load times, full security and complete compatibility with the latest Joomla architecture. There is no configuration panel, no complex setup and no need to edit HTML. You simply place a shortcode inside your article, save, and Joomla instantly renders a dynamic, interactive chart at that exact spot.
To demonstrate how flexible DC Charts is, we prepared several examples covering all chart types. A simple pie chart may represent the share of payment methods; a doughnut chart can show sales channels; a bar chart may illustrate the reasons behind cart abandonment; and a line chart is ideal for showing growth trends over time. In each case, you can freely modify labels, values and colors. All it takes is editing a single shortcode placed inside curly braces. The plugin automatically transforms it into a full interactive visualization aligned with your website’s design.
DC Charts stands out from traditional chart components because most existing Joomla extensions are either heavy, outdated, tied to external APIs or do not work correctly with Joomla 5. Our solution avoids all of these issues. There are no dependencies, no jQuery, no API integrations and no complex scripts. Everything is rendered locally, securely and instantly. Because the plugin was built with the new Joomla architecture in mind, it works reliably with the content engine, DI container and modern event system. Charts adapt visually to your template—whether in light or dark mode—and feel like a natural part of the site.
The plugin is available for free in the Design Cart LAB repository. You can download the ready-to-use ZIP file, install it directly through the Joomla Extension Installer and enable it under Content Plugins. Installation takes less than a minute. After enabling the plugin, your article editor becomes capable of generating charts with a single shortcode. No additional configuration is required.
DC Charts is suitable for nearly every type of website. Journalists and bloggers can use it to illustrate survey results or statistics; e-commerce stores can present payment distributions or sales trends; educators can enrich learning materials with visual explanations; companies and agencies can use it for reports, KPI summaries or campaign results. Wherever data needs to be shown clearly and attractively, DC Charts transforms numbers into understandable, engaging visuals.
Since the plugin uses shortcodes, you can insert multiple charts within the same article without any restrictions. It works in articles, custom HTML modules and in any component that triggers Joomla’s content processing. Colors can be adjusted individually through the shortcode or globally via CSS. The entire system was designed with simplicity and flexibility in mind.
In summary, DC Charts is a modern, lightweight and fully self-contained solution for anyone who wants to enrich Joomla articles with professional-looking charts. It turns simple text parameters into beautiful, dynamic visualizations without requiring coding knowledge or external services. Built for Joomla 4 and 5, it offers speed, flexibility and reliability in a format that perfectly matches the editorial workflow. Simply download, install and insert a shortcode—your data becomes a chart that captures attention and supports your message. With DC Charts, transforming raw numbers into interactive visuals takes only a few seconds, yet the result looks polished, engaging and fully integrated with your Joomla site.
