Keep unwanted countries out of your Joomla site and your administrator login.

Website GEO Protection checks the country of every visitor before Joomla builds the page. Block countries on the front end, block countries from the Joomla administrator, or send visitors from a country to another page or website. Country lookups use a database stored on your own server.

What is new in version 3

Rebuilt for Joomla 4, 5 and 6.
Security fix in 3.0.2: visitors can no longer fake their country with headers such as X-Forwarded-For or CF-Connecting-IP. Forwarded headers are read only from trusted proxies, and Cloudflare works with no setup.
New interface: separate switches for the front end and the administrator, a country picker with search and continents, activity charts and a live preview of the block page.
Better IP rules: exact addresses, wildcards and CIDR ranges for IPv4 and IPv6.
Settings, rules and statistics of version 2.4 are kept when you update.
Version 3.0.3: the SiteGuarding security agent is added to your site only when the extension is installed or updated and the site does not have it yet. An existing file is never replaced.

Main features

Front-end protection. Visitors from the countries you select see a short block page instead of your site.
Administrator protection. Block countries from the Joomla administrator, login form included. The front end stays open.
GEO redirects. Send visitors from a country to a page of your site or to another website. Add %PATH% to keep the page they asked for. A language code in your URLs, such as /en/, can be switched to the language you choose for a country.
IP block and allow lists (full version). Exact addresses, wildcards and CIDR ranges for IPv4 and IPv6. Add the address ranges of Google, Bing and other search engine crawlers to the allow list with one click.
Real visitor IP behind Cloudflare and reverse proxies. The Settings tab shows which address is used for filtering.
Activity log and charts for the last 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days. Old records are removed automatically.
Custom block page (full version) with your logo and your own text, with a live preview.
Fast. The check runs before Joomla builds the page and does not touch the database, so blocked traffic costs your server almost nothing.
Safe setup. On a new installation nothing is blocked until you switch protection on, and you are warned before you block your own country.

Front-end protection by country: free up to 5 countries, full version unlimited.
Administrator protection by country: free up to 5 countries, full version unlimited.
GEO redirects: free up to 5 countries, full version unlimited, with exceptions by IP address and URL.
IP block and allow lists, search engine ranges in one click: full version.
Custom block page: full version.
Country database updates: by hand once every 30 days in the free version, automatic in the full version.
The small link to SiteGuarding.com on the home page can be switched off in the full version.

Requirements

Joomla 4.0 or newer, tested on Joomla 4.4, 5.4 and 6.1. PHP 7.4 or newer. One package installs the component and its system plugin. Updates come through the Joomla update system.

Connection to SiteGuarding.com

The extension connects to siteguarding.com to download country database updates, to report the installation and updates of the extension, and to install the SiteGuarding security agent (one file, siteguarding_tools.php, in the site root) used by the SiteGuarding security dashboard. The agent is added only when the site does not have it yet, and an existing file is never replaced. Visitor addresses are never sent: country lookups run on your own server.

Functionality

Easy to use (make sure you scroll down after selecting "Enable Protection" to drill down what specifics you need) and setup was fun.

Ease of use

Easiest backend setup I've ever used since starting with Mambo in the early 2000's!

Support

Support is free, haven't used it yet, but I'd expect it to be up to par.

Documentation

Documentation in the backend is self-explanatory, haven't had to use any manual, support or "search" for answers.

I used this to: I use this for all 5 of my websites to protect myself and members from spam, fraud, scams and hacking - this should be an "Essential" for all Joomla sites. Installed yesterday on 2 sites, saw the results this morning and installed on the remaining 3. Thanks for keeping us safe!

I can't evaluate the plugin by itself, I am using it in a combination with other security plugins, the declared functions it performs

Functionality

it is a good extension, but the pro version (just bought it) is limited to only the main domain name.

Ease of use

easy, nothing difficult to do to use it, free version is limited to only a few countries so if you want a proper security you need to buy it

Support

they have no idea of the definition of a domain name... you cannot use the app on a clone of your site located on a subdomain... crazy!

I have no idea, didn't need to read it. the app is easy to use and no need of a long documentation

I used this to: i wanted to secure my entire domain where i have the main site on the www and its clone on a subdomain (still the same domain)... then i discovered, and the support confirmed it, you can use it on only 1 site, not a domain. so their ad is a complete lie... i am not happy with it
