DevArt K2 Migration
Introduction
Migrate your Joomla 3 + K2 site to native Joomla 6 articles, even when it is huge.
DevArt K2 Migration moves K2 items, categories, tags, users, menus and images into a clean Joomla 6 site. It was designed for large K2 sites with tens of thousands of articles, and has been tested on real sites with more than 200,000 articles and over 90 GB of images, running entirely from the web interface.
Why it is different
K2 sites with a huge archive are hard to migrate. Time-outs, memory limits and the sheer volume of images break most tools. This component works in small, time-boxed batches that can be stopped and resumed, so it works behind Cloudflare and on ordinary hosting, with no command line required.
What it migrates
K2 items to native Joomla articles (intro/full text, dates, state, featured, authors)
K2 categories and tags, with tag maps on the articles
Users, user groups and view levels
Menu items
Site images/ folder, copied incrementally
K2 article images, copied by date into images/k2migration/YYYY/MM/
Original IDs of articles, categories, tags, users and menu items are preserved
Key features
Resumable and incremental. Keep the old site live while you build the new one. Run an incremental import to bring only the new articles and their images.
Safe source. The legacy database is read only, and legacy files are never changed.
Preparation stage. Finds ID, alias and user conflicts before anything is converted, and lets you resolve them.
Pilot run. Convert and evaluate a sample before the full run.
Check and rollback. Verify articles, assets, counts, media and menus, and undo what the tool recorded.
Fast bulk conversion with a resumable nested-set rebuild.
English and Greek admin interface.
Requirements
Joomla 6 and PHP 8.3 or later on the destination, MySQL or MariaDB, and read access to the legacy K2 database and its files.
Limitations (please read)
Migrate into a clean Joomla 6 site, and back up first. A migration is a risky operation.
K2 comments, attachments, galleries, video and extra fields are not migrated.
Modules, templates and Smart Search indexes are not migrated.
Native Joomla 3 com_content articles are not migrated, only K2 items.
SEO redirects are not automatic. An .htaccess helper is provided for the /item/ID-alias URLs.
The incremental import brings new articles only. Edits to articles already imported need a full import.
