Introduction

Articles Images, Images

The EasyImageCaption plugin for Joomla generates captions from article images’ title or alt attributes and displays them below (or above) the images. An optional data-copyright attribute can be used to display copyright or license information for the image next to the caption.

How It Works

EasyImageCaption works out-of-the-box. After installation through Joomla’s extension manager, you just have to enable it, and all your article images will automatically show captions on front-end pages. You may however restrict “captionizing” to certain images or certain articles through the plugin parameters.

The generated source code is 100% valid HTML5 for maximum browser compatibility and smooth integration into your website. Captions will also work on responsive websites (depending on your template, you may have to add some additional CSS).

The captions can be styled individually through your template’s CSS file(s) or through the built-in basic style settings.

I'm a Joomla! newbie who's creating a news/blogging site. I couldn't believe that joomla has no good captioning program internal to it -- yes, you can use the photo caption function, but as soon as you want to add "hspace", "vspace" "border" to a photo, the photo caption doesn't work.

In the Joomla! help forums some people were offering complicated CSS workarounds to this problem. I didn't want to deal with that.

One person in a Joomla! forum mentioned EasyImageCaption.

I tried it, and really like it. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to do a lot of photo captioning, and doesn't like the JCE editor replacement for TinyMCE.

I don't like JCE because I have a dark background on my page and JCE requires, you guessed it, changes to various CSS files, and creation thereof, for you to see white in the edit box if your page has a dark background.

Anyway, thank you again, or as they say in German -- I believe the author is German,

Vielen Dank!
This is a wonderful plugin that really adds a touch of class to the images on my site. Install was simple, setup was a breeze. The only reason I'm not giving this extension five stars is because some of the documentation could have been clearer on the plugin description area.

I am sorry for the imperfectness of my documentation. I guess this is due to my not-so-good English - will try to improve it.

A Natural Extension

This plug in is easy to use, works beautifully and feels like it should have been there all along. A natural extension of Joomla's core functionality.

Would be a perfect addition to Joomla 1.6.
As the title states, I second the motion that this EXCELLENT plugin be included in J 1.6! Beautiful! Simple! Easy! The available styling is just fine for me. What more can I say :)

Cheers!

It's obvious that this extension is greatly needed -- finding that you cannot easily add captions to images must come as a shock to new Joomla users. (It sure was a shock to me.) The idea behind this extension is therefore obvious -- but no one had done it before, so congratulations to the developer!

I just installed this extension and, so far, it works just fine. Our site does not have a photo gallery installed, so I can't speak to conflicts in that area. Testing so far is with Firefox 3.x and IE 7.

I was able to modify the appearance of captions by adding a bit of code to the template.css file. However, the fact that one needs to mess with CSS keeps me from giving this extension a rating of "Excellent" -- ideally, users should not have to be knowledgeable about CSS to do at least a little basic styling, e.g., make captions bold or italic or center them under the images. That's not to take anything away from this extension, though: using it is infinitely easier than messing around with the Joomla captions mechanism -- and it apparently works better, too. Thank you Mr. Römer!

I understand the problem of "messing with CSS" you mentioned. So I guess I should add the option to define the styles within the plugin's parameters. Put this on my to to-do list for v0.2.

Finally!

OMG, why has it taken so long for something like this (and why is the default system so poor)? I have been waiting forever and finally got exactly what I had hoped to have one day. Thank you!

This rocks - install, enable and all your ALT text is now displayed in caption form, styled by your template.

It would be great to have some control over the style, e.g. text size, italics, etc.
Owner's reply: Thanks for your positive review.

As you have said, the caption can be styled through the template's CSS file(s). Were you thinking about individual styling of captions in different articles? I may have an idea of how to add this function.
