OSOLCaptcha, by Sreekanth Dayanand - Joomla Extension Directory

Introduction

Captcha, Site Security

Captcha for joomla core and custom forms.Inserts captcha in registration, contact, reset password, remind username forms on enabling this plugin. To add captcha in custom forms without changing any existing codes or admin settings, follow the steps mentioned below.
Just have to follow 3 steps for core forms.
1.install the plugin
2.publish the plugin .
3.Check the 5 forms(mentioned above).
OSOLCaptcha Version 2 and above developed for joomla 2.5 and 3 uses regexp and AJAX verification .if the captcha doesnt appear in any of the core forms, you need to edit osolCaptcha/coreForms.php and update the regexp for the particular form based on the template you are using.

---Important step for Custom forms/Non core Joomla forms---

If you are familiar with regexp ,you could add OSOLCaptcha for any forms. For this you need to add a file in 'osolCaptcha/nonCoreForms' folder.you can check 'virtuemart.php' to see how to set regexp for any non core form.

PS: Inorder to have this plugin insert captcha ,the form should have an id or name and a submit button inside 'form' tag.Though by default it usually will have,I am explicitly mentioning it because I have seen users developing custom forms and template overrides without name or id attribute and compalining that the captcha oesnt work there.

It is recommended that this be done by coders or with their help though installing and publishing the plugin could be done by anyone(which in turn will add the captcha to the core forms mentioned above)

Further there is a layer of backend spam protection with the help of botscout api which could prevent even human spams to an extend. We reccomend you to enable this as well.

Currently there are 2 limitations for this plugin

1.If the html part is customized for comuser, modlogin or com_contact,it may not work.Since this is aimed for non techy joomla users it wont affect them as they dont edit any files. However if there is a template override with form id/name change and submit button tag change you should edit
plugins/system/osolcaptcha/osolCaptcha/coreForms.php
and change the 2 variables for that form properly

'formId' =>
'tagToPlaceCaptchaBefore' =>

Enabling auto add for modlogin(not available from version 2.0 onwards) is subject to conditions and is disabled by default.if you enable it, make sure that it is in a unique position ,position must be any of these('left','right','top','user2','user3') .The position occupied by modlogin should not contain any other modules

I have included a link to the download page of this plugin with the captcha image. You are free to remove it,though I will be happy to have that link with the captcha image :)

This is my first extension to JED.Any suggestions and help on improving this plugin will be much appreciated

PS:Please check the technical requirements section and FAQs section in the download page of the plugin, first if you are having any issues with the plugin

I was getting spam email every day from my contact page. Now that this plugin is installed, I haven't gotten any! Thank you for this wonderful extension.

Good plugin that's easy to install.

Gave it a "Good" rating because it is a bit difficult customizing the layout, maybe the dev can create a separate template file?

Good plugin nonetheless.
It's very easy to install and the captcha turns up on every form I set it for.

But since spammers do not use the form itself and rather send data directly to the correspondent script, it's rather useless. Sending data to "task=register_save" without the captcha variables still will enable spammers to create useless accounts.
Owner's reply: You are writing as if you have found something new.the issue was reported within 2 weeks of beta testing(seven months past now) and solution was incorporated with 2 addtional options on version 1.0.3(secondlevel security and botscout options) on enabling which all kind of bot spams are prevented. This includes the one you have mentioned(sending data to "task=register_save" without the captcha variables).Anyway next time when you make these type of 'announcements' try to read the documentation and apply it completely or contact developers before doing so instead of claiming an age old discovery as yours

Great plugin

This is one of the best plugins you can get. I have used several CAPTCHA and this was by far the easiest and it has good control to let you edit the background of the image and the font colors. It beats all of them hands down....good job Sreekanth Dayanand

Adding CAPTCHA to jDownloads

Excellent plugin. It does what it is supposed to do.

I was even able quite easy to integrate it with the popular jDownloads component.

Just paste captcha HTML, in plugin's form tag and it is up and running.

It was like magic. THANK YOU very much!

works just fine!

Installed it on two sites, to prevent spamming through the contact form.

One site was good to go after publishing the plugin.

Second site needed some work as it had template overrides, but just placed the code in the override contact form and set the auto add to contact form in the plugin to no and it worked like a charm as well.

I love it that you don't have to hack core files. Saves so much trouble after upgrading....

thanks for this plugin!
What can I say... it was as easy as pie to install & configure. Simply wonderful. Thanks for this great extension.
Literally 30 seconds or less to install and worked instantly on all the core forms of Joomla!1.5 using the JA_Purity template. I also activated the 2 suggested security enhancements - no problem. Just got a free API code from Botscout and pasted it in. Read the documentation carefully though, before you set up an Admin passphrase, so you know how to get by the block. I've fiddled with Captcha plugins before and all were either tricky or limited. OSOLCaptcha does the business. Donation sent.

Great!

Perfect, easy, impressive. Highly useful, keep it up!
I run a Joomla site for a nonprofit organization.

We started getting spambot attempts through our Contact forms. None of the mail actually got through due to the nonexistent "from" addresses, but still, lots of junk mail with which I had to deal.

I installed OSOLCaptcha to try to handle the form-generated Spam. This extension works PERFECTLY, and with very little configuration. A little added CSS for styling and I was done. So far, we are down to about 1 spam attempt every few days; I suspect these are coming from humans.

Kudos to the developer for something simple, elegant and easy to implement!
