Introduction

Slideshow

showplus is an eye-catching slideshow to display a set of images with user-defined transition between them. It is easy to get started with but offers a number of customization options for more advanced users.

showplus is powered by a slideshow script written entirely in plain JavaScript, and uses no Flash or JavaScript libraries such as MooTools or jQuery. Having a showplus slideshow on a page incurs a footprint of about 14 Kb with only a single CSS file and a JavaScript file included in the page header.

Features:
+ responsive design, scales to arbitrary size
+ choose from six transition animation types: fade, zoom, pan, Ken Burns effect, push, wipe
+ attach captions to images with multilingual support using a labels file with fall-back to a default caption
+ link each image to an arbitrary location
+ order images according to filename or last modified time, shuffle images each time the page is shown, or specify custom order
+ quickly navigate between images with a horizontal or vertical navigation bar
+ set most important styles in the administration back-end
+ use it with both left-to-right and right-to-left languages
+ meaningful output even if JavaScript is disabled in the browser

This is a great extension.

I'm new to website development and Joomla, therefore, I always look for the simple and easy until I can get up to speed.

I tried a couple of other image sliders without much luck, I was most likely the problem and then I tried ShowPlus.

It work well right out the box (I guess that's a good way of saying it). No problems with the install, the set-up, or the performance.

I upgraded to J1.7 and a problem getting it to work (I did say I'm new at this).

When I say it as a J2.5 version, I decided to give it a try again. I couldn't get the tgz file to install, so I sent an email to the developer and requested a zip file. Guess what, you are right he sent it, now get this, within an hour.

NIce extension but slow to load

I was looking for an image slider for my site and this extension appeared to fit the bill very well. It installed and behaved without any problem. However, I believe it is causing a very long load time for my site (slider is on the front page) as it appears to load the entire image folder on startup. Thus many images = long load time (this appears to be acknowledged in the FAQ pages for the extension).

First discovered this module about 30 mins ago, and it's alreday configured and up and running. It gives me exactly what I need - a simple flash-like inline slide show. It's simple to configure, with exactly the right amount of modification potential, and not too mnay irrelevant options. Extremely satisfied - thanks guys.

Does exactly what I'm looking for, Ken Burns effects without Flash. Easy to install and with a little coding knowledge, easy to change the CSS files for label styles.

This extension fulfilled my need for a replacement for RokSlideShow. This ia actually better. It pays to read absolutly all the documentation (which I did not). The trick for customization is that the author uses a compressed version of the css (min.css) in production mode and regular css in debug.

His support is good enough so I sent him a donation.

Small and fine w3c valid slideshow which is very easy to install.

Also the settings are easy to make. Works fine with browsers IE7 +, Safari, FF3.6 +, Chrome and Opera.

Unlike other funky slideshow stuff with lots of effects, Showplus captivates slideeffects with some simple but very nice slide effects that are completely sufficient.



Very nice and fast contact with a problem that I had with a solution within a day.

The module installed and works with no problems. But what I don't like in the module is the navigation, the navigation is so confusing and you cannot disable the (Last, First) buttons. Hope this will be an option in the next version.
Owner's reply: The most recent version of showplus (at the time of writing) uses Slideshow2 for JavaScript slideshow animations, which is a third-party project hosted at Google Code. As a developer, I do see the merits of Slideshow2 but understand its limitations, and have already contributed several enhancements to Slideshow2 in showplus. The ultimate solution, however, would be to replace the third-party product with a slideshow implementation written from scratch that best accommodates to user expectations. There have been plans for this but it is undoubtedly a time- and resource-intensive project, heavily in need of funding.

It appears to be a good module, but it didn't work well on Safari.
Owner's reply: Such problems are best reported directly to the developer rather than written as a negative review. Getting in touch with the developer, he can request additional information on the problem (a one-liner is seldom useful in this respect), and eventually fix it, which benefits both you and the community. Do not forget that this extension is completely free, the developer gains nothing from the software but a good feeling that he has done something valuable for others. A negative review is no great encouragement for the developer to continue working on the project or solving your specific problem (not that he could contact you via the review interface anyway), and eventually neither you nor the community benefits in terms of better software.
