Smart Cookie Consent for Joomla! is a lightweight consent management plugin designed for Joomla! 6 websites that need more than a traditional cookie banner.
Visitors can Accept All, Reject All or manage individual consent categories for Necessary, Preferences, Analytics and Marketing services.
Non-essential categories remain disabled until permission is granted.
Consent choices can be reviewed, changed or withdrawn at any time through the optional cookie settings launcher.
Smart Cookie Consent stores consent as a structured browser record containing the selected categories, consent revision and timestamp. Administrators can change the consent revision when privacy requirements, vendors or website integrations change so visitors can be asked to make a new choice.
The plugin also provides category-based opt-in activation for scripts and embedded content. Scripts, iframes and images can be assigned to a consent category and activated only after the required permission has been granted.
Configurable cookie cleanup rules can remove matching first-party cookies when consent for Preferences, Analytics or Marketing is withdrawn.
For multilingual Joomla! websites, Smart Cookie Consent supports language-specific Privacy / Cookie Policy URLs. Different policy pages can be configured for languages such as English, German, French and Turkish while retaining the existing global URL as a fallback.
Policy link text and the consent interface use Joomla's language system and can be customized further through Joomla Language Overrides.
Smart Cookie Consent is built with vanilla JavaScript and Joomla's native Web Asset Manager. It has no Bootstrap dependency and no external frontend JavaScript dependencies.
The consent interface includes keyboard accessibility, focus management, RTL support and reduced-motion handling.
English, Turkish, German and French language files are included.

INSTALLATION
Download the latest Smart Cookie Consent package and install it through:
System → Install → Extensions
After installation go to:
System → Manage → Plugins
Open and enable:
System - Smart Cookie Consent
Configure your Privacy / Cookie Policy URL, consent settings, banner content and optional integrations.
For multilingual websites, language-specific policy URLs can be configured using language mappings such as:

If no language-specific URL is configured, the plugin automatically uses the global Privacy / Cookie Policy URL.
Analytics, advertising, marketing and other non-essential services should be connected to the appropriate consent category so they are not activated before the visitor grants permission.
IMPORTANT PRIVACY NOTICE
Smart Cookie Consent provides technical tools for collecting, storing, changing and withdrawing visitor consent and for controlling category-based activation of non-essential scripts and embedded content.
The plugin does not automatically detect or legally classify every third-party service used by a website.
Website owners remain responsible for correctly categorizing third-party services, preventing non-essential requests before consent where required, maintaining accurate privacy and cookie disclosures and complying with applicable privacy regulations.
Smart Cookie Consent is designed to support GDPR and EU cookie consent requirements, but installation of the plugin alone does not guarantee legal compliance.
