WHAT IS K2?

K2 provides an out-of-the box integrated solution featuring rich content forms for items (think of Joomla articles with additional fields for article images, videos, image galleries and attachments), nested-level categories, tags, comments, a system to extend the item base form with additional fields (similar to CCK for those acquainted with Drupal), a powerful plugin API to extend item, category and user forms, ACL, frontend editing, sub-templates & a lot more!

Using K2, you can transform your Joomla website to a news/magazine site with author blogs, product catalogs, work portfolio, knowledge base, download/document manager, directory listing, event listing & more, all this bundled under one package!

Give K2 a try & you'll instantly love it! It's easy to use and fun to develop websites with! If you need any help or want to contribute to the project, join us at the K2 community.

FEATURES

Since K2 is extensible with additional fields to its base item form, you can easily create category-specific content types, e.g. article, blog post, product page, directory listing.

K2 offers as standard:
- nested-level categories
- commenting, integrated with Google's reCaptcha & Akismet
- tags
- distinct item image (useful for articles/catalogs)
- image galleries
- videos
- attachments
- user pages (author blogs/user profiles)
- smart ACL for frontend editing
- unique plugin system to extend item, category & user forms
- AJAX based frontend editing & comments moderation
- Rest-like JSON/JSONP content output
- Native advanced SEF options
- Flexible sub-templates (for every content output)

K2 fully supports the Joomla API, which means any Joomla plugins will function properly within the K2 component & modules, either in the frontend or backend.

AMAZING PERFORMANCE

Pixeden, Groupama, Harvard, High Court of Australia, Amnesty International, Arturia, Vivaldi Web Brower & the Joomla Magazine are just some of the thousands of top Joomla sites around the world, fully powered by K2.

DEPENDENCIES & LICENSE

To utilize the built-in video & gallery features you need to install AllVideos (free) & Simple Image Gallery Pro, both provided by JoomlaWorks.

K2 is developed by JoomlaWorks & licensed under the GNU/GPL license.

WHAT NEXT?

Try K2! Install it, hit the "import" button to bring your Joomla articles inside K2, start playing with the component to see the flexibility it provides first-hand. Moreover? You no longer need a dozen of components & even more modules to do things like run a news site or a blog. Drupal & Wordpress have certainly met their match now!

Fat unfinished package

Functionality
functional is mess
Ease of use
Not easy of use
Documentation
does not exist. Only paid Documentation
Owner's reply: You said "support does not exist, only paid support"...

I guess this ENTIRE free forum does not exist: http://www.joomlaworks.net/forum/k2

And where exactly did you read that support is paid? (hint: nowhere)

Instead of spending 2 minutes actually browsing the JoomlaWorks & K2 sites, where you would clearly see what support & documentation is provided, you clearly considered it was easier to spend 5 minutes posting a review here in the JED...
Functionality
It has more features than Joomla core article manager, however it lacks basic functionality such as image position, robots index options.
Ease of use
Easy for joomla users with decent experience. (Could it be more intuitive? Sure)
Documentation
Enough to learn how to use it
I used this to: News Articles
Owner's reply: If you never asked for support it means the product is well built or that you're a smart fell. Either way, setting 0 for support means the hard work put in the K2 forums is crap (according to the JED's score at least). Maybe a 50 (as in the middle of 0 to 100) could be more appropriate.

Or the JED team could start thinking about a better score system like "never used it/didn't need it", "wasn't helpful", "was ok", "excellent" etc.
Functionality
The Media Manager seems to be very feature rich
Ease of use
if you have a lot of images its far too slow, it takes 3 to 4 times longer to open a folder than any other media manager
Support
K2 is a free product so support is by Forum. Considering how popular K2 is, I'd rather pay for K2 and get better support
Documentation
Cant find any documentation on the Media Manager
I used this to: I'm using K2 on a website that has several thousand K2 items and has folders with up to 500 images in them. K2 seems to deal with the large number of K2 Items very well but the built in Media Manager is not up to the task.
Functionality
Glitch free functions. Some developers have referred to K2 as 'bloated' but that is not the case. It is loaded with productive options.
Ease of use
Very intuitive, scalable, flexible. The simplified coding makes it easy for developers to create very productive client websites.
Support
Being a free extension, the support is community based but the developers are always present and do respond to inquiries. Paid support exist
Documentation
Very clear
I used this to: Many websites for satisfied clients, from e-commerce using the K2Store extension, event listing with ticket sales, video and photo galleries similar to Youtube and Tumblr, directory with contact form per list. All achieved with K2 Extra Fields CCK & category template system.

Functionality
Most of the features are now built in Joomla 3.4.1, dont see much need for K2. Lack of support and Doesnt work on 3.4.1
Ease of use
Well ok, but not for novice. Most features are paid plugins. Sticking with Joomla!

Owner's reply: Well, Joomla's core article system still lacks a lot of elements to compete with K2. And I'm not just talking about the content related stuff (CCK, better & less modules, image handling, frontend editing etc. etc.), better templating and the usual "integrator" features that have made K2 so popular. There are other, especially performance related aspects which com_content is still miles behind. And with the advent of K2 v3 in September (and its official unveiling in JoomlaDay Brasil 2015), K2 will be not miles, but light years ahead :)

We do however need to improve on our documentation and this is part of the new site design we're preparing to coincide with the launch of K2 v3.
Functionality
After initial set up it made creating pages much faster and the pages more responsive.
Ease of use
K2 is fairly intuitive. Online docs was all I needed to get up and going.
Documentation
Worked well for me.
I used this to: My own personal website and a couple clients I create sites for part time.
Functionality
Ease of use
Support
Documentation
I used this to: Blog, news, a custom online shop
Functionality
Good functionality, most everything that was there worked well, save for UI issues.
Ease of use
Awful. Ex:Users need to check a box to delete an existing item image, save, then specify a new image to replace it. All just to swap images.
Support
N/a. Didn't contact support.
Documentation
Almost completely nonexistent; the extent of my K2 knowledge is a product of my coworkers experiences with it.
I used this to: Developing sites for future users with not much tech knowhow.
Owner's reply: Some clarifications:
1) You can simply choose a new image to replace the existing one. The checkbox exists if you want to completely remove an already uploaded image, it's not required in order to upload a new image in place of an existing one.
2) We have a very good set of video tutorials on getk2.org, one of which is provided by OSTraining.
